1972-Welcome to New York....

"It's Good To Be Here, It's Good To Be Anywhere"-Keith Richards

"Halloween Is Every Night Of My Life"-Keith Richards

"I Got The Sticky Fingers, For Some Girls"

The studio version is perfect -- feels like a one-take recording and you can almost see them jammed in the cramped studio. The solo burns.

Most powerful? That's Paradiso Amsterdam 1995... Wild Horses single.

I agree ('cause I think I understand which version you mean).
But it's from another single (Like a rolling stone?) and I'll remember it's from Brixton, London, isn't it?

I love the version on Handsome Girls. I think it's from Volume 1, the same CD that the Whip-version on Sucking In The 70s is from. Never heard Mick sing ADTL better.

Any '81 tour version was really good. Great vocals, great slide.

Love the "Stripped" version because of Ronnie's incredible Slide.
But IMo the studio version is still the best. Taylor's original lines are tops, but it is the rhythm section that kills. Listen for the very first instrumentasl bar after first vocal line. "Yeah heard the diesel drumming ALL DOWN THE LINE". "cHUGGA cHUGGA !!

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

THAT "chugga chugga" (aka "roncha roncha") is the true soul of the stones!
It's what makes the difference vs. the rest of the world.
And it's (most of the times) still there!!!
That's why they are still something else

i'll take All Down the Line any time, but i love the way they opened in 78
with two almighty unstoppable gloriously raunchy trains in a row

>> "chugga chugga" (aka "roncha roncha") <<

chunka chunka chunka chunka - ~*YEAH!*~
and of course there's also the aRONK aRONK variant ...
some writer once likened it to the sound of an elephant breaking into a run -
i've always loved that. sustained drive, baby, sustained drive :E

Keith, be well - all the way, baby, all the way

Listen to Keith and Ronnie on Lets spend the night together. Keith is absolutely amazing. Totally mind blowing.

This is really a song that I wish they would play more and play better. My absolute favorite versions are: Handsome Girls, Disc 1 (1978); perhaps even better, though the sound quality is a bit more ragged, is the version on the 1972 Unreleased Decca Album.

Beelyboy, I'm posting All Down The Line (July 26th 72) on HotStuff in 2 minutes.
I agree with Tod on this one. You're lucky to be there! Did you catch any cake? (if you were on the last MSG show).

This is the Rolling Stones at their best live! It would be really greate to get to hear the whole version of this one, it's my favorite end of any song the Stones ever done live. It's supposed to be from the afternoon show from Houston, (first show). It's rocking and rolling! The song is IMO, in general, at it's best live during the american tour '72 and the far east tour '73...
And thanks to Keith and Charlie aswellsmiling smiley Another good version can be heard on "Keep Your Motor Runnin'" (Philadlephia) With overdubs.

yes it is! got it! thanx...
i don't think i've ever heard keith play better rhythm guitar, ever on anything...
he is a relentless railroad train here...
propulsion plus...the tone is perfect raggy-ass but the playing is hot driving tight...

the gits and mick mixed up...everything else a little fuzzy...
gits clearly seperated hard panned...
this is a guitar lovers dream...
great guitar mix here... this is so ferocious...ferocious.
can u believe taylor here also?

mick just screaming thru it... ty for this.
yeah i remember them throwin' around a little cake or something...
not too messy...a couple of laughs and stuff. it was a warm moment...
the various players started backing up and shouting warnings and shaking fingers like 'u better NOT get any of this shi# on me')

but mostly besides the actual stones show i remember the uptight/satisfaction duet with wonderlove and stevie and mick's surprise choreography, jumping up at the same time on cue...we were breathless... everyone was dancin'...everyone...
that's how it was back then...everyone was rocking...everyone was laughing and rocking and goosebump screaming and going for it...

(they obviously had this bit rehearsed but i wasn't expecting it)
we didn't have the web then...and nobody was reading out of town papers following the tour per se...
tho i HAD seen them (same tour) fairly recently before msg, at RFK stadium in DC (sittin' right on visiting team dugout...)
and there was none of that encore hoopla...

that particular D.C. night Wonderlove were so hot, i don't think the Stones ever got quite to that energy level; still a fun show...but that WAS a stadium...
in msg it was quite the opposite in that the headliners were really totally on their game...this can't be too much before that texas ladies and gents thing was shot...

this is really great prize for me, thank you...
i've listened like 4 times in a row now.
emailing it to friends as we speak..
yeah Erik; that was SO cool!!; thanks you very very kindly.

u had to send in postcards for a lottery drawing of who was allowed to buy a four ticket block...i think it was $15.00 or so per seat...and we were on the main floor, not too many rows back...
lots of magic flowers...and not just those rose petals...
i'm in nashville now; but the stones at the garden is something special...
i know they are special in texas and london and timbukto...
but so many from the five boroughs and tri state area...

where was the gimme shelter concert footage shot?
any of that at the garden? i know the hbo '03 thing was at there.
live at max mostly europe, no?
hmmm; that would be interesting to find the locations for all the available concert footage...not too many out there...let's spend the night together...
still no Official good audio quality version of ladies and gents out anywhere...
i'm gonna whine about that for another twenty years i guess..

and those days you could go down to the fillmore east and catch ronnie with the faces too...so not a bad time and place to grow up...as much growing up as i've ever managed anyway...
