Was this song ever released officially? I really like this one, anyone have any interesting details about the recording, who is playing piano, pedal steel etc.

No.

aka 'Do You Think I Really Care?'

It's a Jagger/Richards/Wood composition.
Recorded early 1978 in Paris (Pathé Marconi).
Pedal steel is most likely to be Ron Wood.
Piano: Ian Stewart or Ian McLagan.

One of the very best unreleased stones songs IMHO.

I think this is the best unreleased song.

I love this song, its a perfect example of what the Stones have in their archives that has never been released. There are so many good songs from this period that were never been released, there could have easily been another Tattoo You style album released with songs that never made the cut.

anyone else feel a vibe similar to this song toward the end of LMDS? Especially the Woody-slide part....

certainly in their top 3 or 4 anyway.

It'd be nice to hear a finished take. The circulating version is pretty close to one, but its quite obvious that its not a final version as Mick is calling out the chords, etc.

Ronnie's pedal steel work on it is gorgeous. terrific song.

Speaking of unreleased songs.....
One song I think could have been great,
is they did finished the lyrics, re-recorded it, and SPEEDED it up,
is What Gives You The Right, from August 1978. Perhaps you don't agree, but what gives you the right?

what's wrong with the speed, erik? sounds good "as is" to me...

It's a bit boring with those chord-changes, if you keep it in a slow tempo. Too much alike Worried About You, or YCAGWYW. I meant a tempo almost like....let's say Don't Stop (no-matter if you like Don't Stop or not).
If you got a slow-tempo-song it better be some really nice harmonies, like Let It Loose or Beast Of Burden for instance.
If the tempo is pop-rock, it's the feeling that is important, you don't have to analyze it that much.
I'm not saying it's a weak song, but it suits better with the pop-feeling.
I really like the break when Mick says "du du du, du du What's justice gonna do", it could have been really great.

hmmm....well it works fine for me at that tempo - might even like it a bit slower.

I love the idea of a country song set in Manhattan.
