I'm sure it's been mentioned here before, but was this ever rehearsed or considered on the last few tours Or was it abandoned after 1978 and the CNIB gig? By the way, which versions do y'all like the best, boots included?
For my money you can't beat Keith's guitar work on the Leeds '71 version. The way he mirrors Mick Js vocal phrasings with the rhytm along his lead breaks will ensure Keith a place in rock and roll heaven. This version kills me everytime I hear it and I must have heard it more times than I have had hot dinners. It is the epitome of what rock and roll guitar should be . What else can I say? Superlatives fail me!
Oh yea, the quintessential version for sure. The first time I heard that one chills went down my spine. No one except the Stones can make that sound. Especially cool in the Leeds version is the guy yelling "LET IT ROCK!" just before they kick into it. The timing is fantastic. Ever listen to the Altamont show just before they start Queenie? There is an obviously high guy that says an extended "woooooow" as the riff begins. I love that stuff in live recordings!
On the Detroit 78 version, after the second verse, there's a brief moment when Keith and Ron are in perfect sync, playing a freakin chordal harmony (at 1:20), and then split off to play separate riffs. Beautiful. For you guys who have "Handsome Girls", this deserves repeated listens.
Forget the old Leeds 71 version -- to my mind, in 78 they had the groove nailed to the floor.

I too love this song from leeds, even the bit of feedback before the lead kicks in gives me chills. How do I get a hold of the Forth worth versions> I'd love that. By the way, I just got Ladies and G.on dvd, not that great sound but oh well.
The first 2 discs are from Fort Worth. Number 3 & 4 are from several, including Detroit. Let It Rock, When The Whip, Tumbling Dice comes to mind, although there are more.
This tune makes you jump into the blue sky!!!One of the most exiting songs I ever heard and It will always get me going..still mad that it wasnt on the San Francisco 78 boot!!!I just cant tell how much I love this ''Let it rock'' thing.
