Shidoobee is a great site. I think there is more than enough room on the www for all 3 "big" sites.
It wouldn't do for them all to be the same.

Not enough room for ONE Bon Jovi site though !

OK, I've lived all over the world and I agree with BV. We're all the same but different in very way. Perhaps this is why I don't get the humour or sarcasm of Mr. Lawyer and Voodoopug. I do, however, understand and enjoy the wit and humour I find here at IORR.

I do find it odd that political posts are removed at Shidoobee, but I don't run the board and StonesDoug and BV here on IORR need to makes their own decisions.
I will say the last time I was in the States I found the vibe a little strange.
So many news events are not reported on American media. Thank goodness my hotel has SKY news and the BBC. At least I could get some sense of what was happening outside America.

We have a "free press" in the USA,thank goodness, but, in my opinion, our press has a very low opinion of what the American public finds newsworthing. I find it condescending that our press believes I am more interested in Tom Cruise and Oprah or NASCAR racing than the tensions with North Korea or the suffering in Africa. Now at the risk of pissing off my new friend, scelsa, I will caution those of you who may be new to this country that FoxNews has an admitted bias in favor of the Bush administration and other right wing issues. For world news I listen to the BBC daily and feel as though I am getting unbiased information. I hope I am right.

the news still has to "sell" unfortunately, which is why you'd think the year-old Aruba missing girl story is still newsworthy if you went by the daily lead stories on the various cable news stations.

Most people in the UK would tell you that the BBC is well known for it's left-wing bias. Thats actual 'left wing', not the American definition of the term.

I was hoping to get some input from someone in the know. Thanks, Gazza. Do you recommend a better source of world news, without a bias? Don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily willing to give up on the BBC, but I am interested to learn about other sources of news that you, for example, would recommend.

I'd stick with BBC. Maybe they are a little Left Wing, but I don't think they're bias to such an exrtreme to the point of them changing stories or giving missinformation.

I personally dont think the Beeb are THAT bad to be honest, although I tend to use Sky for news, myself.

I've met Stones Doug and he is a real decent guy. I think all this stuff about boycotts is just crazy. I check both boards and comment on both. I like talking to people all over the world. I set up a nice trade with someone in France during their last tour and it worked out fine.

Just thought I would quickly stick up for the BBC, "left wing" thats a good one, depends on what you consider "left wing" if you mean relatively unbiased, multicultural and more or less trustworthy and not sucking up to the business vultures then yes.

I have heard many tales of how the BBC World Service is seen in some countries with no human rights to speak of as an absolute lifeline for them really knowing whats going on in world affairs, China being an important example now and in the past.

Compared to much of the disgraceful US media during the Bush administration we should be thank God that the Beeb is there in my opinion. By the way i'm no lefty.

Shidoobee and Doug are outstanding. Doug is one of the most unselfish fans I ever met, he shares his info when he can, and he knows how to throw a good party. We meet at the first time in Stockholm during the triology, and he was great and friendly.

I called him up when I was in Boston last year, and he said: "Get your butt in a cab as soon as possible, there´s going to be a dress rehearsal tonight! So I did, and found myself together with Lespaul sitting outside Fenway, drinking Long Island Icetea, and listening to probably the longest Stonesconcert in years. And we had such a good time at the 2 Shidoobeepartys that took place there. So a boycott of Shidoobee, just because one might not like Pug or Mr Laywer is really misdirected. And I´ve met John (Pug) too, and he is such a friendly guy, no shadow on him. I bet if I met Mr L, I would find an equally nice person.

clearly I wouldn't support a boycott, but whether or not these folks are "nice" or not really isn't the issue, it seems to me. it's more a question of whether the atmosphere there is conducive to intelligent and interesting exchanges and dialogue. i left a few months ago because it just wasn't anymore, for my money. i'm sure i'm not missed, either. Doug's a cool guy, but the site is way too "patriotric," IMO. different strokes.
