Jones is a total diffrent player to Cooder and Taylor. Jones was a feel player, and absolutely not technical, while Taylor and especially Cooder are technically brilliant. Brian's slides have always been full chorded slides in open tunings, while Cooder and Taylor have the technical ability to play melodic lead slide. Don't get me wrong, Jones is a brilliant slide player, but not in the same league as Taylor and Cooder.

The important thing is how good the result is. It's the feeling of the song that's interesting. I don't care if Cooder or Taylor are better tecnically. I don't care at all. ......however I love the Stuff Taylor did with the Stones. You could pick the greatest slideguitar player in the world .....but I want BJ on No Expectations. Can't be any better....

Manhattan....I agree about Ronnie's work on The Woodstock Rehearsals.

It's his shining Stones moment(s).

Virtually all of the slide guitarists discussed on this thread play in a blues-based style. George Harrison was very different, and that is what made his slide so distinctive. If he's playing slide, you can tell it's him immediately.

I agree with you...but, I would also amend it - I think just about every guitarist I know (slide or otherwise) has a "signature" that immediate identifies him/her to the discerned listener....

Where did you get that info? The Time is on our Side website states it is recorded in 1970-71: [www.timeisonourside.com]

Not that I don't believe you, just curious winking smiley

Edit: I thought you guys were discussing Sway (see post that Mathijs was quoting). Sister Morphine was indeed recorded March 1969.
