Kentucky Dec. 11 -81 rocks ! - back ground vocals

One of the best performances from the 81 tour. Get the EV release, very clear, hardly any hiss.
Makes all recordings from the ABB tour embaressely pale. And Bill W.swings, what a huge difference with the one we have now.

Anybody has any idea why Keith/Ron where replaced as back ground vocalists starting from the SW tour? Almost sure Jagger decided on this, simultaneously with his SW new hair cut. It took the angle out of the 'dirty sound' of the Stones.

Because Keith after 1975 had lost his signature high register harmonies. Ron Wood has never had the ability to harmonize....he simply added noise to the backing vocals of 75, 78 and 81...nothing musical about it. Fowler also added punch to Jagger's vocals as he would follow or echoe Jagger. The various girls, such as Lisa Fisher added wonderful harmonies and enhanced the musical quality of the performance.

I loved the New Barbarians tour when it made its' Atlanta stop in 79, but the vocals from Mr. Wood and Mr. Richards were nothing more than ragged moans.

'Enhanced the musical quality of the performance'? Are you serious? I will never forget how angry I was when those background people fucke up Satisfaction with their yelling during the Ahoy 2003 gig. And listen to JJF those days. NOt a shadow of the 78/81 version. Love Keith/Ronnie their vocal input.
It's hard for me to believe someone prefers the slik BtB(? was it) version of Let's spend the night better than the 81/82 version.

Maybe so...I was referring to the 78 tour where Keith started his now familiar moans....at one time he was a very effective singer.

At this point, Keith should have Bernard Fowler sing his two songs each night.

I prefer the guitar arranged versions of Let's Spend the Night Together and Under My Thumb from 81. The thread was not about song arrangments, but about backing vocals. I currently do not like the Satis-fak-shun being sung by Lisa during the closing of Satisfaction. Hard to beat Steel Wheels and Voodoo Lounge for clean backing vocals. You will always have the purest who hate the cleaned up, but musical vocals....they are entitled to their opinion.

are you kidding me, keiths and rons backing vocals from 75-82 are excellent,
the roughness is what makes it the stones, this no frills vegas
style since 89 takes away the rough edge of what the stones sound is all about

If you listen to 1972 live recordings of 'Happy' you will notice that Keith's voice was very different on each concert. While sometimes he sang very good he sometimes 'bellowed' the vocals. He never really was an excellent singer but he was able to express his emotions in a song quite perfect.

Question for Kees:

Do you think EV took the DAC release of Lexington and tried to improve on it, or do you think EV had their own separate copy before the DAC release?

thats what i´ve been thinking BOBM,does EV have different source,or do they
just remaster cd´s better.
Btw if these DAC releases are from monovideo/screen sources, where are the films?
What about real soundboards then?

I asked this question myself some days ago but no serious reply....

So far, all the EV releases are in my opinion much more clearer than the ones released by DAC first.
Sometimes EV releases a gig first (like Hartford for ex.), sometimes DAC, but each time that EV released the same after DAC, its releases sound clearly better. I don't know if Boulder is released by DAC but also a very nice release by EV. To me it seems they have their own source. Anyway they have somehow the connection simply as they released a few 81 gigs quite sometime DAC did.
The soundboards from EV also from the New Barb. rehearsals for ex. are incredible clear, don't you think?
