How did you figure out which songs he used this guitar on in Baton Rouge? I can understood YCAGWY, from the capo position, (I thought this was done in standard tuning with the capo at the third fret). And wasn't happy always played on a 5-string, capoed at the 4th, as was IORR & JJF in the same position? What about Rocks Off - isn't that standard tuning with no capo? Seems like a lot of mucking about when a change of guitar for these songs would be much easier.

.........I dunno where Mathijs got his information from but I think he stated that the guitar was used on those three songs and maybe more. He probably saw photos but I'll let him explain it. YCAGWYW was played in 5 string open G, capoed at the 5th fret on that tour......as far as I know, it's the only one that Keith would have used a capo at the 5th fret for....... .. "Happy" as you said was played on a 5 string with a capo at the 4th, same as "Tumbling Dice", "Rip This Joint", JJF, SFM, and IORR were all played on this tour (to my knowledge). Keith also used a slide on "Happy" back in those days so if you see a pic of Keith at the mic with a slide on his finger, they're probably playing "Happy"...... I thought that "Rocks Off" was probably played in standard tuning on the '72 tour but I never knew for sure. I know Keith has done it in standard in recent years. I think there might have been a 5 string open G rhythm part on the original studio recording as well as a part in standard. But I'm not sure about this.....haven't really tried to disect it. Mathijs or somebody else here probably knows knows for sure....But my point is that he might have played it in open G for that show. I've played it in open G myself.....either with a capo on the 2nd fret or without one.
I'm 99% positive Rocks Off was standard tuning on the '72 tour. Not quite as sure about the studio version (there's at least two guitars there), and even less so about the '75 rendition. But probably most of 'em, including the Live Licks version, are standard tuning.
LYL' IORR' (from Toronto 17.6.75) intro. was a disaster! Different key' played. Poor ol' Charlie on the back beat before he caught up with the rest of them )

But thats one of his great moment, the drum intro and the change in rythm that first minute. Besides, didnt Keith always play the IORR intro not like on LYL (Chuck Berry style).

It's funny how the fanbase can see things completely different: that's my very favourite version of IORR because of that drums timing!! I really didn't think it was Charlie being caught backbeat, but Charlie actually playing backbeat. It's not differet key, as I think IORR was played on the key of B through the whole TOTA (they played it in the key of G the following year in Europe, though). And I always loved the intro!!
Sorry, I wasn't clear in what I wrote. Judging on the pictures I have seen he used the '52 LP on Wild Horses, Happy and YCAGWYW, and most probably some more songs as well. Rocks Off surely is not included, as this song never was nor is played in open G.

Yeah I thought Keith did it in standard tuning but wasn't absolutely positive.....do you know if both guitars were in standard on the studio version?

Studioversion was recorded in the key of E.
hey i noticed the caribbean steel drums in one of the pix....on which songs were they used...the reggae-ish tracks (cherry oh baby & hey negrita)? are the steel drums audible on any recordings?
If you mean the picture where all the people are onstage with Jagger, it's from the encore Sympathy, from New York City, they brought a them onstage, just like in Hyde Park 69. It could be from Los Angeles too...or did they use them in LA ? ..If you mean the drums 2 pics above, it's Ollie Brown's drums, used for a lot of the songs.
Great reading the '75 Tour of Americas Bootleg guide. Unfortunately no mention of the June 9th Concert at the St. Paul, MN Civic Center. A very IMPORTANT Concert....it was my 1st STONES Concert! Ticket stub sez: $8.50! ! I remember the Cool petal shaped stage and the Star Star prop which stayed up for the whole song. If a '75 St. Paul boot exists...please contact me! I've been searching for 31 years!

If any of you are intersted in a guide to the bootlegs you can read this guide that I wrote a few years ago. Tommy
'75 was the first US tour after MT and I remember noticing the holes in the music where the MT solos used to be. Ronnie didn't know the songs yet and the weave had not really developed either so the music sounded thin. There were still some great moments in the 2 shows I saw at MSG - especially Sympathy. This featured 100 steel drummers from Brooklyn as well as guest shots from Carlos Santana one night and EC the other. These were also the first longer (2 hrs +) Stones shows that I remember.
