What ever happened to Jim Price? Why didn't Bobby play on the 81 tour. Where did they find Ernie Watts and what happened to him? Is the guy on this tour Jim Smith, where did he come from? Who runs the horn section ont this tour?
Bobby Played on Brown Sugar in 81. Mick didn't want him, and haven't contacted him, as you know Bobby missed some shows at the end of the 73 European tour. But at the end of the rehearsals in 81, he showed up, and gave Mick an apology, and he had quitted drugs, he said. So, he came along, even though Mick wasn't too happy about it.
Another interesting question here is, what happened to Trevor Lawrence, Ollie Brown and Steve Madaio. I just saw in a boot-CD-cover, that Madaio played trumpet/trombone on Bob Dylans' 78 tour. After that, I don't know.

No Jim Smith in the horn section.
Bobby Keys - sax Tim Ries - sax (replaced Andy Snitzer in 1999) Kent Smith - trumpet Michael Davis - trombone
As far as running the section - although Bobby sort of gets the honorary spot; the key solos, I doubt he "runs" the section. Those newer cats are all younger, quicker. More professional. Tim reis has gotten a lot of props from the Stones themsleves. But from playing with quite a few Horn sections, I have for some odd reason always found that the Trombone player usually calls the shots. Honestly don't know why.

I thought the Memphis Horns in '89 played with more style than the current crew (Bobby notwithstanding)...cases in point - Brown Sugar on Flashpoint at 2:46 into the song and the Satisfaction at 3:23...
