There was a very interesting thread about this about a month back.
We got some stories from somebody who'd been there.

The best and longest version of Shattered was played at this show.

I sat next to a couple of black women who particularly enjoyed Miss You. For the most part, it was the most depressed looking crowd I've ever seen at a rock concert.

My buddies brother went and it was the first time anyone I met had actually seen the band. He, of course, thought it was amazing. I think the weather was bad and I also seem to recall reading on this board that Mick was sick. I know it was a short show, but then all the '78 shows were brief--especailly comapred to '75/76.

Part of the punk ethos---quick shows, compact arrangements of the songs. THe bit about Shattered sounds cool--also know they played Satisfaction at this show--and that was a big deal at the time.

I attended this show. It was a blast, spent the night outside the stadium, M-80's going off all night, lots of partying going on.

This show had Peter tosh, Foreigner and the Stones for a little over 90 minutes.

No rocks were thrown but oranges and apples were thrown at Foreigner.

Stones rocked. Mick has been better, Fast paced show which included 'Satisfaction' which was rare for '78

Rode the train back to NYC
Slept in the overhead luggage carrier, used it like a hammock.

Aha! Notice the Boogie heads with the Cerwin-Vega cabinets.
I knew I wasn't losing my mind. Back in 1981, I remember getting a brouchere
from CV saying the Stones had used their cabinets on the tour.
Someone later posted a pic from the Boston warm-up gig where they
used the same cabinets. LAter on in the tour (don't know when),
I believed they switched to Mesa-Boogie cabinets.
The CV cabinets are distinctive by the red along the top.
I lost that brouchere, so thanks for posting this photo
as I was sure I didn't make it up or dream it up.
They were still using Nady wireless systems, too, I see.

Lord, they were awful: after my crew and I drove two hours and spent the night into the parking lot waiting to get into the stadium, we nearly got crushed getting in at 8 in the morning for the noon show. Thousands of people trying to get into a single doorway opening! Then after nearly four hours of waiting, enjoying Peter Tosh's too-brief set, and enduring an hour of the insipid Foreigner, we got 85 minutes of Stones with no encore. Jagger was ill, hardly any of the 90,000 people there knew the new material (we did, however), and the performance was as uninspired as they gave on an inconsistent, but often brilliant, tour. The show was over before 6 pm.

It was one of my biggest disappointments in 35 years of concertgoing. But I didn't write them off and have seen a whole bunch of wonderful shows of theirs and the Winos since, including my next Stones show three years later, opening night at Madison Square Garden in NYC.

So incensed by the report below from Rolling Stone magazine, that the Stones camp told its editor, Jan S Wenner, that any 'special relationship' that may have existed was now over, and that all 'priveleges' would be withdrawn.

The UK's NME seized upon this opportunity by taking these 'latter-day Framptons' to the cleaners, and hailing them as nothing but bullies, who realised that they were past it.

...happy days.

And maybe someday you will post about something other than JFK 78.

Well then come on tatters, put up a bunch of other Some Girls tour stuff. From everything I've ever read about the tour, it was probably their lamest tour ever. What's the big deal?

I'm just a little weirded out that in the several years I've been reading IORR, dariog has NEVER posted about ANYTHING other than this ONE concert. I get the impression that not only was it the high point of his life, it also just might have been the only time he's ever left his house.

Yeah, and please post when you do.

Also there's been a few threads on this JFK '78 show. Just use the search option and you'll probably find more pics.

I remember reading Dave Marsh's review in RS magazine.
Laughable then as it is now.
A "snippet" of Satisfaction? They played the whole song.
Respectable equals Rocks Off? In what way?
Whip equals Hand Of Fate? How?
I've always wondered why they reviewed the JKF show
when they knew Mick had the flu that day.
Why didn't they review another outdoor show?
They would have done that for Springsteen.
Indeed, when 1981 rolled around, it was if 1978 never existed.
Some Girls was panned as was Emotional Rescue.
Tattoo You was the greatest album and the 1981 tour was the best ever.
Then again, RS magazine always had their finger in the wind and still does.
