Cool post. I love this movie, my favorite of favorites--it is the band at it's zenith. The backlighting, while a novel idea, does not really work and that makes it draker then it should have been.

I thought Klein was responsible for the video release of RnR Circus.

At least as of Last Friday nite Greenwich Village was alive and well with Stones bootlegs--I could not agree more--doesn't the FBI (good grief!) have better things to investigate then a couple of record stores in Manhattan?

The decision of releasing any live recordings from the past has to be taken by both Mick and Keef. I have read statements from Richards that he sees no problem in "handing out" some unreleased gems. Some years ago both he and Ronnie said at different occasions that the band were about to release a whole box with unreleased gems! On the other hand, Mick personally put his foot down when the Dick Carvett show was about to be released with footage and sound of the band playing at Madison in '72. After reconsidering, he did at the last minute decide that it was ok, but without the Mick Taylor solos. As I see it, the problem narrows down to Jagger. One can only speculate on what reasons he's got for not wanting to dig into the past. My guess is that he has several reasons for it. Maybe Jagger simply just wants to focus on the present. Also he might not want the guitar duel (Wood vs. Vibratosmiling smiley) to disturb what they're doing now. Unreleased live gems can probably constitute a good retirement. Besides, maybe he like to think about the fact that the band doesn't need to release any material that Allen Klein had his claws in. Thirdly, with not releasing any of the Taylor era live recordings, he certaintly makes this a big mysterious thing, and many of us (including myself) is definetely getting hysterical about itsmiling smiley There are probably many more reasons too...

Good post S.T.P.!
Mick's refusal of the Taylor solo at NY 72, is one of the most stupid thing I've heard about Micks decisions. He's turning "old"-Stones into an enemy of the present Stones.

No, these new version are from an entirely new source....Bad Wizards version is the best that I have seen, and I have them all....at least 10 different sources on video tape, and 4 different DVDs.

Its NOT overdubbed...they sometimes used different video footage for the audio tracks. No need for it to be officially released...the boots are near perfect.

Yeah, I read that the best / latest DVD of Ladies and Gentlemen is in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and rated about a 9.5 compared to a 10 (official release) Is that the one you're talking about stone-relics ? Do you agree with a 9.5 rating or is that a bit too high ?

Not even the Brussels tapes are near perfect when it comes to sound. All the live recordings from the seventies were done bye the rolling stones mobile recorder which was considered as one of the best mobile recording units in the world.
