Best Show this tour untill now ?
Date: March 15, 2006 17:23

Houston is great in both performance and sound quality, but i think the all the stones were on FIRE in Buenos Aires the radio broadcast (The first show)

Radio City Music Hall is suposed to be hot to but there isn't a bootleg surfacing yet.

I think the one thing that's certain is how further they go into the tour they hotter the shows get..

great to see that the boys (61) are getting hotter and hotter as the tour continues..it proves that they aren't doing it just for the money...
doing it for the love of the music...

If you mean the broadcast, it was the first show.

It must be some kind of coincidence that the shows with the best sounding recordings always seem to be mentioned as the best performances.

I mean the video broadcast. That was the second, right?

The broadcast was recorded during the FIRST show Feb 21 and broadcasted on the date of the 2nd show. The 2nd show was a rainy colder show and if you check out the set list you will understand and see this.

Of course, it's all relative... I'd say Buenos Aires (2/23, the Rain Show), was probably the highest energy Stones show I've been to (First show was 10/28/89 at Shea in NYC). It was insanely good. For what it's worth, Chuck Leavell, on his blog / diary thing, wrote that he thought BA # 2 was one of the best shows of the tour thus far.

I can only speak for the three shows I went to 1-18, 1-20 and 3-14.

I would say I walked away the happiest after 1-20-06.

Then I would put Radio City ahead of 1-18.

Bjornulf, I'm curious how do you rate Rio as a show? I mean if it can be separated from the event that it was. I was there, but not at the Buenos Aires shows, so I'm curious how the Brazilian audience differs from the Argentine in their enthusiasm.

I'm sure I'm among the majority who miss you writing your reviews of the shows. Because you go to so many of the shows, I consider you the best person out there to be able to rate the shows.

really? it doesn't seem like BV has much in the way of "critique" to offer about the stones. senseless and boundless praise, yes. critique, not so much.

Houston is the best show I've heard of this tour, performance wise

Rio was very impressive however (BA was more of a Stones crowd and for that reason, more of an exciting show but I thought Rio was technically a better gig).

He may not criticize much, but in his reports he made it clear when certain shows were really at a higher level. I also liked being able to live vicariously through his reports for all the shows I never got to see..

Gazza, I never heard how you liked the 2 New York shows you saw? Care to share your thoughts? luckily you got some of the better setlists on this tour.

I thought they were both very good. The band played very well, the setlists were pretty nice (you really DO need to get back to back shows now to get much variety) and the sound was excellent (something which has been long overdue for this tour)

(Still think the shows were very overpriced and the Licks tour was better, so nothing I saw changed that opinion, but thats another story)

I think in general the quality of the shows has improved as the tour has progressed. By October, for the first time ever, I was actually bored listening to recordings of new shows. Since around the time of the Hollywood Bowl shows, I think things picked up.

"As tears Go By" was a personal highlight and it was nice to get 'Sway'. Crowd was good for the most part although they really didnt give a shit about the new songs or Keith's set which was sad.

As with any trip these days, the socialising with other fans, some Ive met before and some I hadnt, was a huge part of the fun.

1-18 was a kickass setlist, but Ronnie was a bit out of it. The boots should show this. 1-20, he got it back together and that made all the difference. Man, if you only saw three shows, that's a pretty good threesome!

I thought that they were a little tired at the end of the show (can't blame em, of course), but I agree that Rio was a great performance. When you think about it, how amazing is it that we (at least the people in the US) can watch a show like Rio over and over again? I had it in a little window on my computer as I was working last night. When you think about the olden days, and listening to some audie cassette or waiting all week for an SNL performance or trying to find out when some Japan TV broadcast would be available on boot. Wow. How times have changed.

yep..it was quite amazing. Remember remarking on that at the time. Was sitting here in the UK watching a show in Brazil with someone in Ohio who I was chatting to online in between songs. A weird way of enjoying a show together!
