Black Sabbath, Blondie, Sex Pistols, Miles Davis in R&R Hall of Fame
Posted by: The Sicilian ()
Date: March 14, 2006 05:46

Well the class of 2006 is in:

Black Sabbath
Blondie
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Sex Pistols
Miles Davis

All will be inducted on March 21 on VH1

Blondie is still furious about former band members Nigel Harrison and Frank Infante who tried unsuccessfully to sue her for being left out of a reunion in 1999. She says "Absolutely not" about them being involved.

The Sex Pistols will be a no show "Were not coming" say Johnny Rotten. "Were not your monkeys and so what." was a response posted on their website.

Metallica will induct Sabbath but they say they will not perform.
Kid Rock will induct Lynyrd Skynyrd
Shirley Manson of Garbage will induct Blondie
Herbie Hancock will induct Miles Davis

Stay Tuned!!!

How Van Halen is not there is an eternal mystery and beyond a joke.

I REFUSE to go anywhere near there til this ridiculous error is remedied.

Alice Cooper

Joe Tex

Flying Burrito Bros.

Laura Nyro

Bobby Womack

and about 35 others....

...deserved to be in BEFORE Miles, who merely dabbled in Rock and Roll.

By Alice Cooper I mean the band, not the singer solo

The Alice Cooper Band has been pasted over? That's a joke. They were very big in the 70's and were the Nine Inch Nails of that time period. On top off that the 5 main albums, Love it to Death / Killer / Schools Out / Billion Dollar Babies / Muscle of Love (hope I got all those correct, that was off the top of my head) Were some really great albums with tons off strong songs on all of them - not much filler. Also, if I may add, The Sex Pistols are REALLY getting old and tired (as in OLD NEWS). Johnny Rotton = a middle aged rebel? Gimme a break. F**K the Pistols - THE CLASH RULE !!! The Clash HAD the attitude and the TALENT. Pistols had the attitude for a moment and NEVER had any talent - Bunch of Garbage !!

Thing about Alice Cooper it was such a dynmaite band. Not only a singer with BU group. Buxton, Bruce, Dunaway and Smith. Hope I got the names right, but they were tight.
Johnny Rotten is just staying true to his beliefs; I don't think he is trying hard to be something he isn't. More like the other way around.
About the celebration: it looks like they are going to get a NON-Skynard band performing as Skynard, a grey haired Blondie and....that's it.

It has been suggested that the Sex Pistols are upset over the fact that their peers like the Clash, Talking Heads, and Elvis Costello have beaten them to the hall.

Is there jealousy in R&R?

Since Miles Davis is being inducted into the R&R hall, does that mean that we can expect the Stones to be inducted into the Jazz hall of fame?

Yeah, Miles Davis was great BUT, the Cat was NOT Rock and Roll.....I heard Mellencamp has been looked over numerous times, what's with that? Who else has been passed up? Who's in charge of the picking?

If you want someone that has sold more albums than all of these bands probably put together and were voted the most popular band in the 70's and outsold the Beatles and the our favorite band the Stones in the 70's. KISS

KISS should be in the Hall of Fame! I am glad to see LS finally make it. They will have to have plenty of statues on hand....how many people have been in that band since the plane went down in 77?

KISS should be in the crap hall of fame. Third rate watered down rock if it ever existed. If they hadn't painted their faces and dressed up like cartoon characters, no one would have ever paid attention to them. I used to like them when I was 10, fortunately my tastes have matured since then.

Should it be like the grammys, based on popularity? I guess some might make a case for Kiss, but for me they were not a major band (I do love 'Detroit Rock City'). Loog Droog mentions several sad ommisions, and it seems that as with US 'classic rock' radio demographics determine who gets played or viewed as major - more 70s kids, more 70s music than 60s or 80s. Are the Dolls in there? Should be. So Led Zep would make it before the Small Faces (Marriott obviously a big influence on Plant, & they left a terrific body of work). or Love, who are virtually forgotton except by a cult following. Haven't heard them on the radio in 35 years. Faces?. Lee Dorsey? I'd add James Chance, solo Eno (is Roxy in there?), Television (certainly, if they include Blondie - & btw weren't those two guys on several Blondie albums? I don't have the first 2, but they're on the 3rd & 4th), Box Tops (their 4 albums rule!) and Big Star? So many great soul singers who are nearly forgotton except by a small following - I've never checked who's in, but I doubt James Carr is, or Major Lance. And to be honest I think PiL's "Metal Box" surpasses the Sex Pistols' one album.

Come on, ohno, don't ya wanna rock and roll all night and party everyday?winking smiley

I'm a 70's teenager and like some of KISS's stuff (Mr. Speed, Hard Luck Woman, Beth, Strutter, etc.), some I could do without (I Was Made For Loving You, Lick It Up, etc.). One hell of a live show circa 1976.

I want to rock 'n' roll all night, but I don't want to party everyday. The sunshine bores the daylights out of me smiling smiley

I was a bit snobbish when Kiss was in their prime, but I totally understand your sentiments Elmo.

As much as I love Miles Davis and his 70s output of heavenly junkie music, it does seem strange that he is being inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Not having Alice Cooper in there is a travesty.

Miles did a lot of pioneering jazz/rock fusion. Bitches Brew is a great album along those lines. There are bands I think deserve to be in there more than Miles, but he definitely made a contribution to rock.

Why, if it hadn't been for Miles, Darryl Jones might not be playing with the Stones now. Hmmm, on second thought, Miles' induction should be revoked!

It will be moving into the 80's soon
We should see The Cars, Van Halen and maybe Duran Duran even

It may take a real long time for KISS. If Jann Wenner (sp) has anything to do with choosing. RS mag has written KISS off since the beginging. They have never been on the cover and now most likely never will be.
Hate them or love them you cannot ignore thier influence in Rock and Roll

Seems to me like they are overlooking an awful lot of British bands too: Mott the Hoople, Roxy Music, MARC BOLAN!, Humble Pie, Faces!!!, Free, Hawkwind.

A Rock and Roll "Hall of Fame" is crap. Just an excuse to build an expensive museum and fill it with kitschy junk donated by vacant pop stars.

That being said, the only inductee I really respect is the Sex Pistols, for good or bad. They sucked but they have a little self-respect when it comes to these ridiculous self-congratulatory non-events like the Hall of Fame. Johnny Rotten is an idiot but he hit the head about how silly it is.

Deborah Harry is a 60-year old hag....scary to look at. She was once f-ckable but that was a looooong time ago. Used up and thrown out like a used douche.

I'm not sure what that has to do with her music. Keith and the rest of the Stones aren't exactly looking real youthful themselves these days, but who cares?

The HOF is a joke. Every man and his dog has been inducted by now. And what do you get? A 5 by 5 plague in Cleveland? Tsss....

I agree that it's a joke, but not all greats have been inducted.
Little Walter's not in, nor is Sonny Boy Williamson, the Hollies
(if you're gonna heve Gene Pitney, then the Hollies definitly should be there),
Johnny Burnett, Hank Snow, Gram Parsons, Buck Owens (if you're gonna have
country influencces, you best have them), Andrew Oldham, Brian Epstein, Micky Most
(if George Martin's there, etc...), Carol Kaye, Wayne Shelton for side men...
I could go on. Jan Wenner controls all this. It's pretty much "who's cooler than who." And if Jan Wenner controls it, you know it ain't worth much.
