Did the Stones turn you on to drugs?
Posted by: CindyC ()

WAY back when I was just a little teenybopper listening to Shaun Cassidy, the thought of drugs scared the crap out of me. A few years later I started listening to the boys and read Spanish Tony's book. I have to say, it did make me curious and prompted me to experiment with recreational pharmaceuticals.

Did anyone else start similarly, or were you all a bunch of burn-outs already?

No, it was my own stupidity. They only turned me on to their music. Which was much better.

Try smack. Try and get off it. Then you'll know that's not funny.

Did the Stones turn you on to'''Streets of love''?

Wow, this thread didn't turn out like I thought. Ok, I guess I'm the only one to have been seduced by Moonlight Mile and the rest of it.

At least I didn't start because of peer pressure! Jagger50, I never tried smack, I know I would never be strong enough to stop.
So don't take any offense.

No offense intended. It was a remark about a terrifying part of my life. Not intended of course. I said it as a warning to young poeple who may think it's cool like Keith did it. Don't do drugs! Just the music.

I never had a problem with drugs - only with "Streets Of Love"!

No, but the people who turned me on to the Stones also turned me on to drugs. Does that count?

I long ago decided that strippers can lead me down any path they want, unless it's one that leads to a dark alley where their biker boyfriend takes my wallet.

psychedelics 101: i studied and studied Between the Buttons for clues about what this "drug" stuff was all about.
around 1967 little girls in the suburbs were getting lots and lots of signals from the music (not only the Stones', of course);
we knew something was happening and we didn't know what it was. and the Glimmer Twins' trial sure helped bring it to one's attention
that there were plenty of compelling reasons to be interested in alternatives to what the grown-ups had dreamed up.

"What do you want - what?!"

Actually, Cindy, Spanish Tony's book probably kept me away from drugs. I first read it when I was 9 - although it did teach me how to swear, I think all those stories about Keith & Brian freaked me out at a very impressionable age.

Of course, I later made up for my chemical inexperience with nicotine and booze, so who the hell knows!

Cindy, I'm using your thread. I wonder just how many of us have been introduced to drugs by a so called friend. And then blame it on the music or the times.

Not me. I turned down drugs many times until I decided I wanted to try them. I think the reason why I finally considered it, was the RS were the first people I admired that did them and that changed my view.

No, my mother raised me right. She turned me on to them.

The Stones didn't turn me on to drugs, but they certainly made it cool to want to do.

Well, no, because of two reasons: 1) just not interested in drugs, when it all comes down to it, and 2) by the time I got into the Stones, they were hardly doing any drugs anymore. grinning smiley

When I was a teenager, I was much more interested in the groupie stories from various rock bands rather than the drug stories. Later I came to learn that both activities are to be highly valued.

Stones turn me to drugs No definately not.

You could get anything you wanted in my high school if you knew who to ask.

First smoked at a party when I was 15 & I liked it.

Not a friend who gave it to me just someone passed it on, they did not know I had not tried it before and I didnt even think about it just took it.

I can honestly say that no one has ever pressured me to try anything.

It was there if you want it if you didn`t then it was fine.

Yes I tried mushrooms, Speed, coke etc later but they are definately not my thing and each time was my choice to try.
