Ron Wood stories from SW London

The first of these is what I "heard", but I do believe it to be true. What is a fact is that Ron used to live in a lovely Georgian house overlooking Richmond Green. I believe the row of terraced houses is called "Maids of Honour" row. Anyway, like pretty much everywhere else in Richmond and SW London in general, trying to find somewhere to park a car is a $%Y^& nightmare. The story goes that one night Ron was having a party, all his mates turned up ............ nowhere to park. So f*** it, they all park on the Green. Now if anyone knows Richmond Green, this is NOT somewhere you park a car. Parking on that is akin to flashing your pride and joy at the queen !! So the "story, which is more than likely very true, is that this "incident" was in a lot of peoples' minds the "final straw" as far as the good Ron's residency of Richmond Green. Shortly after that our hero must have taken the hint, sold up, and moved to the former hunting lodge up on Kingston Hill, just the other side of the park.

The second is: I read an article in one of the local Kingston papers that there had been an "incident" at the house of Kingston's latest celeb to move into the area. The incident occurred on Ron's birthday. The article went on to say that the party had a "fancy dress" theme. Apparently someone in the neighbourhood complained about noise, so a couple of "environmental pollution" officers from Kingston Council went up there to tell him to turn the volume down. The story said that whoever opened the door when they knocked on it uttered the immortal words "so who have you guys come as" ???? Apparently the "noise" was attributed to the Gallagher brothers and Ron having a jam !!

Don't ya just love it ?

I don't like Oasis! They're not worthy of Ron.

HA! Great stories. I hope they're true. I like to think that they still have some bad boy in them (and I don't mean that literally)

Really Miss U? I think their music is so good. They are jerks, for sure, but their first two albums, I can't say enough good things about. Have you listened to them all the way through, and not just the radio stuff?

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

i love them! don't believe the truth is a great album, i saw them live some time ago: they know how to do great rock'n'roll and how to drive the audience wild!!! I had fun baby!

If you're genuinely not interested, that's a great answer may I say. I tried a similar approach on a Sex Pistols thread some days ago, in whom I am similarly not the least bit interested; and f*** me you should have seen the reaction it provoked !!

Paulywaul- living locally to these events, as you do, i too have heard these stories circulating, in local press etc.
Woody does apparently, get on well and socialise with Mr Noel Gallagher, amongst others. Tim Burgess of The Charlatans is another.
(i attended the "Hero 2 Hero" gig at The Shepherds Bush Empire in Dec '04, when Woods and The Charlatans did a joint-set).

I went to see The Leah Wood group at the Eel Pie Club about a year or so ago and after her short set of 5 or 6 songs (which was very cool), Art Wood announced his band would be playing and jamming with some friends......we then noticed Ron standing further along the bar. Sure enough, after some larking around by brother Art, he was 'persuaded' to strap on his guitar and give us a blast of what he does best. A real family affair!

Yes, I was VERY annoyed with myself for being out of the country when that was on. Of course, just to piss me off even further, on the next occasion that I was in the Cabbage Patch/Eel Pie club, what do I see but innumerable pictures of that particular night up all over the walls ? I bet it was a cracking night. I personally love Art Wood. Boy does he lark around, but when he goes up to the mic, that voice of his really is superb ?

Oh good, I'm glad you've heard/read much the same. He's a bit of a lad is our Ron, a right "rock n roll hero" in my book. 58 years young and no obvious intention of either growing up - or turning the volume down for the sake of the neighbours !! I approve totally !! Wish there were more like him in the world !!

I saw the Leah Wood group at the half moon in putney a couple of years ago, I am good friends with the music promoter there, and i actually used to work there while I was studying at roehampton, SW London. So i was tipped off that ronnie would definitely be there. And sure enough he turned up, also jerry hall and i think gabriel were there too. Was a great night,

Also, does anyone remember the article on this board, May 2000?? This is for the old-timers on this board, when the rolling stones - yes all four of them - were at the halfmoon for a wake for Keiths old minder, Joe Seabrook? Ronnie and keith jammed on stage with Art Wood and the house band, also the guy that wrote 'golden brown' was there and played that very song. I still have a lanyard and some photos somewhere from this day. Honestly, one of the best of my life.

Which leads us naturally to the next question ..... what's the Leah Wood group like ? Any good, or really just riding on Dad's credentials ?

I do recall reading about that night in question, when all 4 Stones were in the good old Half Moon and Keith n' ron got up on stage. Again, severely pissed off to have missed it, but I certainly read all about it when I got back into town so to say. I bet it WAS one of the best days of your life, I'd have loved it to have been one of the best of MINE too !!

She's not bad, nothing amazing though, and she certainly did not have any commercial success. I dont know if she got much/any radioplay. She was quite nice to look at on stage...

Without trying to sound like a tosser, even if you were around for that event (may 3rd 2000, remember it like it was yesterday) it was a closed event. The whole pub was shut for the day, so plenty of upset 'regulars' had to go elsewhere to get their fix. The only reason i was there was because i was a barman. It was literally top secret that the stones were gonna be there. As far as all the barstaff etc were aware, it was just a reocrd industry 'do' for Sony/BMG.
This is actually quite funny. At the time, I had just started seeing this girl from helsinki, very sexy, very blond, very busty etc etc. So anyway, i was asked to work for the day at the pub, thinking it was just the sony function, but i was supposed to be on a hot date that night, cos my 'friend' emma was flying back in from finland, so i declined. I was asked again a few days before the event if i 'was sure' and I'm like, yeah, dont want to piss her off, wanna get laid etc...
So the music promoter took me up to the pub kitchen upstairs, sat me down, and explained that i really should work because, quote: "The @#$%& Rolling stones are going to be here!". She is also a huge fan (went to astoria together 2003).
After collapsing with shock, I rescheduled the finnish bird, and the rest is history. All the other bar staff were told at around 3pm when they arrived, and it was nuts, no-one could believe it. Funny thing is that keith was the first to arrive, around 5pm, all smiles, signed a guitar. It was incredible, all 4 of them plus the wives i think. I remember Jo Wood at the bar, i was making vodka & orange for ronnie and keith, double measures, and Jo said, "Oh you better stick another one in there, or he wont taste it!" Classic...

Anyway i could go on forever about the night but this is becoming a long post.

Cheers!

great stories Mr Jimmy...the Half Moon is a great venue, one of my faves-
i remember reading about this secret gig in my local rag..
.would have loved to have been there.

you didn't tape it by any chance did you? lol

Having been to the Half Moon on many occasions, it seems hard to imagine the Stones there as it is so small and intimate, a great story. Mr Jimmy, surely you could have solved your dilemma by sneaking your Finnish girlfriend into the pub.......then again, with MJ around.....maybe not!!
