Since its late here and the board is light, I've often wondered how you get those smoked sardines packed so nicely in that can.

I had some lately that said product of Poland, Spain, Portugal, etc... I love those suckers. Are there sardine plants in Europe?

Lukester I know your a sardine man!! Confess

If you eat sardines, there's a good chance they are canned about an hour's drive from here in New Brunswick, Canada. I've been in the factory and though it is very modern, it's like waking up in a bad dream. People work endless lives in places like this. And there's bad country music on the radio - all the time.

Hey Rockman, that's funny! I actually take Omega 3 pills because they really do help my memory, but sadly enough, I can never remember to take them (100% true). Oh and if you ever get the urge to bite one of those pills, I highly recommend not doing it.

When I was a teenager my best friends sister in law starting calling me the sardine man. She saw us eating them a couple of times.

I don't like the mustard or ketchup packed. Love the olive oil, hot sauce, and plain skinless boneless and a hunk of French or Italian bread.

Sardine Man... Sounds like a heavy blues tune...
Can anyone - BTW - post facts about a blues called Ice Cream Man?

Hey Sicilian, I'm really not into the sardines. But thanks for thinking of me. I've got a can of them in my pantry that I've had forever. I keep waiting for a special occasion to eat them.

Even better yet Oysters. The best I've ever had in Biloxi Mississippi and New Orleans. Big ones. $4.00 a dozen raw. In New Orleans they leave the ingredients on the counter to make your own cocktail sauce.

A good way to increase that 10cc to about 15cc!!

My Mediterranean island dwelling friend, I've been thinking about your question a lot over the last three days and decided to do a little research. It turns out that scientists down at cannery row have been able to train the little fish to swim right into the little cans and line up side by side, alternating head to tail. I think the little boogers think they will be rewarded with food or something. Imagine their surprise when the top of the can gets slapped down on them, thus burying them alive in oil.

My hometown is famous for many things , incluindig the Best Sardine festival in Portugal !!It's a week long , with concerts every night with an average of 50.000 persons per day, where the main food is shellfish .... and sardines, off course. But I never go there , even if I like sardines once in a while

Do you eat whale, my elk yelling, frost bit friend? Does it taste just like chicken?

I think they eat it in Japan, too.

Sitting in a bar on Bourbon Street eating raw oysters with hot sauce and downing cold beer... jazz music coming at you from all angles... laughter all around... ah, man... sad, sad, sad... what memories!

And sardines are quite nice with crackers and cheddar cheese with cold beer

No, whale taste special. The closest thing I can compare it with is deer-steak. (But perhaps you haven't tasted deer?) Whale is very suitable for barbeque. Very dark, little fat, and much proteins.
Best served with bourbon.
The only problem I've had with whales, is when they start "shaking" when you HAVE killed it. Almost makes me fall out of the boat!

Cant deal with those sardines at all - I like those rolmopp? herrings though -i think thats a Swedish speciality. They sure taste a lot better in Sweden than they do here in the UK. Were pretty handy with the trout and smoked salmon though.

Good dish - grilled tuna steak with ginger and soy sauce marinade +chillies.

Well Ive FINished my post now..

I've got about 12 tins of sardines in my kitchen cabinet. They're mostly around 3 years old.

What's the shelf life on those little buggers?
