The first post in this thread had Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys at no. 1. That is a brilliant choice. The album is horribly underrated -- a work of genius, and while it requires two or three listens to appreciate, I would recommend it highly. Somewhere on the net, there is a site dedicated to the album where all of the samples and references are catalogued. It is insane.
Stones - Exile Beatles - White Album Dylan - Blood on the Tracks Radiohead - Kid A Pearl Jam Live at the Budokan, Tokyo Beasties - Paul's Boutique Ramones - Rocket to Russia Clash - London Calling Springsteen - Born to Run Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story
not necessarily the 10 "best", but 10 albums, i'd have packed in my suitcase, if i was getting on a plane, with those guys from that addictive tv show, "Lost" :-
The Gilded Palace Of Sin- The Flying Burrito Bros England's Newest Hitmakers- The Rolling Stones The Chirping Crickets- Buddy Holly and The Crickets A Ghost Is Born- Wilco Batchelor No.2 - Aimee Mann Sound Of Lies- The Jayhawks Live At The Fillmore- Lucinda Williams Gp/Grievous Angel- Gram Parsons One Step Beyond- Madness The Crossing- Big Country
Derek & the Dominoes w/ Eric Clapton: Live at the Fillmore
Madonna: The Immaculate Collection
Red Hot Chili Peppers: My own 2-CD greatest hits because none of their albums are quite in the league of these listed although Californication comes real close
Selecting the 10th album is tough, but at the end of the day I'm going with:
The Moody Blues: To Our Children's Children's Children....
Interesting that of these 10 albums, there's really not one bad song... how rare is that these days ???
"It's just that demon life has got me in it's sway..."
Some Girls - The Rolling Stones Piledriver - Status Quo Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan New York - Lou Reed Pink Moon - Nick Drake Griveous Angel - Gram Parsons Farther Along - The Byrds Sonic Temple - The Cult Santana III - Santana Closing Time - Tom Waits
I have to leave out a lot (and I mean a lot) of favorites, because we're talking about albums and not compilations. I'll try though:
Today 1 Dreaming My Dreams - Waylon Jennings 2 Live At The Harlem Square - Sam Cooke 3 Exile On Main St - Rolling Stones 4 Bo Diddley/Go Bo Diddley 5 Folk Singer - Muddy Waters 6 NIght Beat - Sam Cooke 7 Velvet Underground & Nico - Velvet Underground 8 Songs For Distingue Lovers - Billie Holiday 9 Talkin' Blues - Wailers 10 Raw Power - Stooges
my ten faves, but probably far from being thought of as the greatest ever;
