That piano track is "Key to the Highway", but who's playing? Is it Stu or is it taken from some blues record? It sounds very old. Does anybody know?

And the song is actually NOT "Key to the Highway" (I thought that myself for many years) but "Trouble In Mind", apparently

A Ronnie and Keef album,just great.Pity they didn't tour with it.

Dirty Work has some great songs and some really bad ones. I don't think it's as bad as some say it is but the record suffers from some 80's sounds even though Steve Lillywhite is a great producer. One Hit To The Body is one of their very best in my opinion. Winning Ugly, Fight and Dirty Work are good songs. Harlem Shuffle and Too Rude are among their best covers and Sleep Tonight has one of Keith's most beautiful melodies. Still it's not a very strong album in terms of content but's an interesting listen if you think about all that was happening during the making of it.

IMO what makes it their second to worst album is the awful production and the mediocrity of the songs.

Undercover also has a horrible production but the songs are much better.

And steel wheels, awful production and horrible songs. (their worst for me)

Why? They would have played Brown Sugar and Satisfaction. Same as now.

They did play One Hit To The Body and Harlem Shuffle in '89, as well as Undercover (three songs from albums they hadn't toured behind when they were released). I'd like to hear any of these live again, especially One Hit To The Body.

Is that really a Stones Album !!! Is Undercover a Stones Album !!! Hopefully 20 years later came ABB.

Well I've listened to it straight through a few times, and it's definitely my least favourite, and I still think they were so much better with Brian Jones.

For all Dirty Work's shortcomings it still represents the raw energy of the Stones better than the albums that have followed. It's the same with Mick's raw vocals - he doesn't sing like that anymore despite the fact a number of songs cry out for that type of vocal. SteelWheels is far worse in my opinion. It's sterile and that's one think that can never be levelled at Dirty Work. It's the last Stones album which really sounded authentic before the professional sheen was applied and the Stones truly became a corporate commodity (just look at the later abum covers for proof of that).

Dirty Work is not among top 10, but from a bad period it is good enough.
The record was nearly finished when Bob Geldof went to a studio Paris and asked them personaly to play at the Live Aid Show at Wembley, but Mick refused to perform with the Stones because they was not playing well. (he did a lot of solo projects in the mid 80s)
But he turned up with Tina Turner and Hall and Oats at Philly Live Aid show, 15 mins later Keith and Ron turned up with Bob Dylan and made a shameful performance.

The Stones have never been closer top break up than the time before these
There and then they desided to call the new LP Dirty Work, and understand how importeant it is to work with other musicans.

It was very disappointing at the time. A few good songs, a few real bad songs, crappy 80's sound. I can tolerate one Hit, Dirty Work, Had it with you and Harlem Shuffle(barely).

I think Dirty Work is their best studio album since the 70s. My favourites are especially Hold Back and Dirty Work.

The drums on it are painful!

I've made my mind up that it's poor, which I've shown in a previous post. The whole point of the topic wasn't for people to make my mind up for me, it's too see what other's think, which is why I wrote 'general opinion', so you got it totally wrong.

probably the worst stonesalbum ever,most because of the sound on the album.thought something was wrong with my album or the longplayer.this is only keith,s album,so don,t start a blame it on jagger thread again.this could have been a good album,but the mix,sound?horrible

The album sucks but Back to Zero rocks hard!
