Rock n Roll Circus

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I'm quite new. Finally bought it. What a fantastic slice of the 60's. Can't understand why it was shelved for so long. Has great atmosphere and can't understand Mick's sentiment that the Who out played them.

As I understand it, Allen Klein was the one who told Mick he thought the Who
"blew them off the stage." I do not agree with that at all although The Who were coming off a tour and were unbelievably tight, while the Stones, at that point had not toured for a yr or two.

Plus, the Stones played last which was something like a 23 hr shoot.

Ps Klein might have been pissed off by Mick's imitation of him (complete with turtleneck) during his "interview" of John Lennon.

I don't think the Who were brilliant when they started doing crappy Cockney accents, whereas the Stones played straight.

That last segment of A Quick One is one of the most exciting things I've ever seen.

The Stones set did have its moments, but in addition to everything Glass Slide pointed out, they were also basically a one guitar band at that point. Which with the Stones is like a three-legged dog. No Expectations aside, Brian is simply not there.

Totally agree--their performance of a Quick One may be my all time favorite thing by the Who--hitting on all cylinders.

I wouldn't say Brian is not there. I have the original copy of RnR Circus; alot of Brian was cut out, especially the close up shots and shots where he is smiling....notice all the close ups of Keith in the final version and so little of Brian!

Keith was in peak form.
Brian was barely there by that point.

This is Winston Leg-thigh and we've got Eric Clapton from Cream the late great Cream, Mitch Mitchell from da Jimi Hendrix Experience (Are you experienced?) oh very very...a very fun "interview" to watch.

The Yer Blues segment, esp. on the new DVD, with the multi-camera shots of John, Eric and Keef, is worth the price of admission.

Didn't Brian look terrible. So strange seeing him knowing what was just around the corner. I adore Mick's performance. I was a child at the time, but it makes me feel the bohemian slice of RnR.

What do you mean by the original version - a bootleg or the VHS that was released in '96? If it's the '96 VHS, I didn't realize that the new DVD was a different edit. I'll have to fire up the old VCR and investigate.

I don't know when it was released, sorry. It's in black and white.
Brian looked beautiful, like an angel.
Keith was high as a kite, and Brian was actually worried about HIM.

I also really enjoyed Taj Mahal on that one. It made me dig out some of his old stuff - what a great musician!

You are very agreeable, Nicos! Just kidding, I know it was a computer error, I've been getting some myself. Is it me, or does it seem that ever since the Rio concert traffic has picked up considerably on this site, and sometimes it is hard to connect?
