Of course he was very good maumau, but i don't think we need another thread about Ronnie. Everyone knows very well the arguments of both sides. Enough is enough. Ronnie is still a great guitarist and that's that!
"He was rocking as keith was rolling". Of course, maumau. Don't get me wrong. I understand very well your noble motives. But i feel a bit tired of what usualy happens on this board when we discuss about Ronnie. The SAME talk, with the SAME arguments... I hope you know what i mean. I like Ronnie and appreciate his abilities and the job he is doing in the band.
Ronnie was cool and great as usual. If you don't like him just take a banana or a swim. By the way only two songs did really make the crowd freak out tonight. Start Me Up and Satisfaction.
"Ronnie was cool and great as usual. If you don't like him just take a banana or a swim."
You know, with all due respect, I really fail to understand that thinking. What does that really mean? Am I being told what to think of his playing without regard for any dissent or objectivity.
I have been a Stones fan and guitar player for 25 yrs. Seen them 8x own every commercial release and a more bootlegs then I can count.
At the risk of being presumptive, I think I am entitled to an opinion w/o any swimming or banana eating involved. It comes off as quasi-censorship which on a board devoted to discussion of a band seems kind of unfortunate.
I have nothing against him personally AT ALL.I do not know Ronnie (he seems very funny), and have a real appreciation for what he brought to the band particularly at a time when a "breath of fresh air" was probably needed. I like his steel playing and the Some Girls/ Emotional Rescue outtakes along with the '78 tour is my second favorite period of the band. They really did "weave" during that period (no more) and it sounded and still sounds great.
I have only been here a little while, so perhaps "criticisms" of his playing have grown old for some. Perhaps. That, to my way of thinking does not take away from their validity. Perhaps, on many nites it really ain't all that "great" or remotely close to "great". Perhaps, that s why on many nites his guitar is way down in the mix. Perhaps, Mick and Keith themselves do not think his playing is "usually great". Perhaps.
Sorry for possibly being "offensive" but it is an honest, unbiased opinion which I will risk expressing rather then being told, in essence, to f--- off if I fail to agree with what it appears I am being told to think.
Boston 2006--how has Ronnie been treated as a second class citizen--if by anyone it was by Mick and Keith who waited something like 20 yrs to make him a full member or who failed to give him proper writing credits--that has nothing to do with me and I think it was pretty shabby treatment.
I think he played well tonite--Happy sounded really excellent.
Markdog--I think you are right--if you read this board and did not listen to some of the shows from this tour, you would think this is the best he has ever played as a member of the Stones. To me, that is a "fanboy" mentality which is at a bit of a variance with reality.
Ronnie was great tonite.... Daryl was great, Chuck was Great... Charlie was very good at least... Mick was Okay, not the best I've seen of him. The backing singers were good, lisa wasn't nearly as good as I've seen her in terms of the dramatic Nite Time delivery...
Ronnie played great, but not at the level of Chicago U.C. II. Mick was alot better there too...
But overall I'd give the show at least an A-... such an ambitious gig just to pull it off at all they'd get a B, and with the good musicianship it slips at least into a low A-minus.

Does that mean that the crowd did not get into it. I had the vague impression that at least JJF, MR, Miss you and YCAGWYW had the audience deep in the show.

Great post. No disrespect intended BV, but you do come on a bit strong occasionally. What's with this bizarre reference to bananas and swimming ? But anyway, the concensus of opinion (certainly judging by Mickijaggeroo's thread called "It's on now" that was running right throughout the show ) was that the entire band was on fire and that Ron was in particularly fine form !!
