King Kink himself is playing Irving Plaza in March.

Has anyone heard his new album or seen him live recently? How's his show? Is it...Krazy?

(sorry, Kouldn't help myself.)

heard a new Davies track the other night...good tune....Rays voice still sounds good...i saw him on the "Story Tellers" tour....a nice, intimate show with just him and a guitar player....he would play a song, then tell a story from his book

may have been in the mid to late 60's..... the original bass player Pete Quaife quit after '68

Saw RD in Glasgow last September.........

He had a three piece band......

Played a mixture of Kinks hits and album tracks as well as newer "solo" stuff.

A great gig, lots of energy.

Get a ticket!

Not sure about the original line-up, but the last Kinks tour was in '95.

Anybody know how Dave's recovery from his stroke is going?

once again IORR comes thru for me. I was bummed out i missed Ray Davies when he came thru NYC for one show earlier this year and i never would have found out about this other than via this thread!

I have seen the Kinks a couple of times Ray davies once and Dave Davies once, all great shows.

Do you think he'll play Sway?

I did not know Dave suffered a stroke . How is he recovering.

The original Kinks lineup accepted a lifetime type award on the UK Rocknroll Hall Of Fame thing last November....
RD DD Pete Quaife and Mick Avory....

They didn`t perform.

Dave looked a bit shaky.

He had a tour planned last year which had to be cancelled as he hadn`t recovered enough from his stroke. Hopefully the brotheres will settle their differences and when Dave is fit enough do some gigs.

HalfNanker: Well I'm glad to help!

I think the odds of him playing Sway are about the same as for him playing King Kong.

went to the show last night and it was great. super small venue. I was 10 feet from the stage and though he doesnt get the press that Mick gets, Ryay is up there with Mick as a shomwan (though in a very different way--he likes to tell stories and mix it up with the audience).

As an aside, for a 61 year old guy he played 2 1/2 hours, 27 songs and he even took (at least) three requests (via paper plates for those of you who are familiar with the Kinks). As the plates came up on stage, he's read them off and went into a three song set of "requests" not part of the planned set list--as the band just sat back and watched while he played acoustic and sang.

The morale of the story, 60+ year old rockers can play for longer than 2 hours mix hits and new stuff (he played at 7-8 songs of his new 13 song album) while sneaking in a few gems. Maybe when the boys come back to the US in the fall they can play clubs and do the same!!?? what do you think?

Good show, the only disappointment for me was the exclusion of Waterloo Sunset.

Did he play it Friday? I havent found a site that tracks al his set lists like this one does for the Stones. Is there a Kinks Ray Davies site that has a set list section.

Im going next weekend in Chicago. What a gig it would be if Ray and Dave would ever get back together. I think it's gonna be fun to hear Ray with a full band for the first time since the Kinks broke up. Ray is one of the best songwriters of all time.

King Kink is well worth seeing. Say him on his "Storyteller" tour and seen him at least twice more since then, most recently in London last year at the Royal Albert Hall with his current band. Puts on a hell of a show in terms of hours, when I saw him it was over 3 hrs with a short intermission. Great mix of new and old stuff. Don't miss him if he's in town.

Some answers:
The Kinks last performance was at the "Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo in june 1996 (Think it was the 15th) - I was there!
Ray Davis will play in europe (21 april at Rockefeller in Oslo) - I will be there!
I have seen Ray Davies some times (The storyteller 2 times) and some ordinary shows - and I think they are pretty good. - It's well worth to see.
His new album "Other peoples lives" is also a very good album.

Go and see a Ray Davies consert and try to short the time when you are waiting for the Stones to hit europe!!!

Have a nice day everyone!

[kinks.it.rit.edu]

- a fantastic Kinks-site

- official Ray-site
There you can see that Ray is coming to Europe in April and May. Even to Iceland. And UK in the autumn.
