so what? Most artists of that era didnt. Talent doesnt begin and end with how many songs you happen to write.

I wonder if Jerry Lee shot him?

The Million Dollar Quartet, on the other hand, is the real deal. Elvis stopped by Sun Studios in Dec. '56 and started jamming and screwing around with Perkins, Cash (though you can't really hear him), and a very young Killer. Sam Phillips had the good sense to just let the tape run. Jerry Lee is a riot - for a kid who hadn't even released a record yet, he pretty much steals the show.

The dialogue is even more interesting than the music. Hearing Elvis describe seeing Jackie Wilson do "Don't Be Cruel" is historic, if only because when E went on Ed Sullivan a month later, he performed "Cruel" in Jackie's style.

It's the ultimate fly-on-the-wall experience.

Million Dollar Quartet is indeed the real deal Juan.

But, the other, Duets, you wouldn't know it wasn't. Give it a chance. You like these guys, you'll like Duets.

I love Elvis. My favourite period is 1968-1977. In his final years Elvis' voice transcended his influences and became unique. He also made some of his most passinate, heartfelt music them. And if any of you doubters need any convincing, track down the film of Elvis' very last show. It's mostly as dreadful as he looks, but then he delivers of Bridge Over Troubled Water which renders all other versions of the song obsolete - apart from Johnny Cash's version on Unearthed.

I think of him more as an icon then an artist, yes he did pioneer white people playing rock and roll, he had a fantastic voice and was an original and exciting stage performer BUT he did not write his own music, I am not saying you can not be talented without writing songs but I also don't think he should be mentioned in the same breath as the Beatles,Dylan or the Stones, They are true artists in every sense of the word, not just performers. I don't think the Stones became great until they started writing their own songs up to then they were just a very very good band, timeless classic original songs moved them to greatness.
