I don't like his new record. winking smiley

I really dig him. The song If I Can Dream is one of my favorite songs ever! His voice was amazing. A man with songs like Suspiscious Minds, Burning Love, Can't Help Falling In Love, Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel, Always On My Mind, That's All Right, Heartbreak Hotel, among many others, deserves all of my respect.

Elvis doing wild Horses would awesome!

But how they twist and they turn
And a dead end and a dusty old strip mall
Where your tires are all shredded and burned"

I've said it before, but the Elvis Presley Band in the 50s set the stage, so to speak, for every rock n roll band that followed, including the Stones and the Beatles.

Elvis was in touch with David Bowie, when he heard "Golden Years". He wanted Bowie to write something like that for him.

Oh man . . . he's the one artist who can rival the Stones.

I love the Sun stuff and the early, pre-Army RCA records (especially what he did in '56). Elvis Is Back! from '60 is really good, too. Not a whole lot of stuff holds up from the mid '60s (except for his gospel records, which kick ass), but from the '68 Comeback Special through the Memphis stuff, the early Vegas shows, and Elvis Country - that's my favorite era. Aloha in '73 was his last hurrah - he went downhill pretty quickly after that. His voice remained great until the end, though - check out "Unchained Melody" from '77 - it's hard to watch, but MAN! Chilling.

Elvis is the single greatest performer of the rock era. Mick is the best of the mere mortals, but E is on a totally different level.

Plus, he was cool as hell.

As a performer Jagger was so much wilder!!!but I wasnt there in the fifties!!! and I know it was a big revolution back then shaking your hips!!!And he was the first!!!

I was an Elvis fan before I was ever a Stones fan

he's still up there as one of my favourite artists of all time. Still a huge fan - the crappy movies tend to make people overlook how great he really was, because thats a large percentage of whats around as a visual document of his career

Simply the greatest (and most diversely talented) singer there ever was or ever will be.

Handsome bastard too...

Hey Rooster....they're both part of the "wild-man" evolutionary family tree

It's one of the greatest books on popular music ever written

The second part "Careless Love" is quite brilliant as well

Elvis was a hero and he still is.

His Sun records and early RCA recordings still sound as amazing as they did 50 years ago, also because of Scotty and Bill's crafstmanship. I remember that Keith once said he always tried Scotty Moore's guitar solo on You're Right, I'm Left, She's Gone (brilliant title, BTW) and got frustrated because he just couldn't figure out how he did it.

I also dig his later work, especially the Memphis Studio recordings in '69. I'll Hold You In My Heart, After Loving You, Any Day Now, Long Black Limousine and Stranger In My Own Home Town are some of the best R&B recordings ever.
