Why did everyone hate the superbowl show???
Posted by: Send It To me ()
Date: February 12, 2006 06:40

I was nervous about how'd they'd do and was pleasantly surprised. I thought they looked great, sounded great, rocked the house. I can't for the life of me figure out why everyone has been so negative about the show. It seems that one person in the media forms an opinion and then it just gets passed along as gospel...

Thoughts/expanations?

The sound started off bad and halfway through SMU got better. The show overall was very good and the negative reviews were unwarranted. how many other Superbowl acts played live? ZERO!

The Stones were GREAT!

Would some have prefered the ol' days when MTV Produced the Halftime shows and you had ignorant rappers running around grabbing their cocks? If that's what you are into watch MTV Spring Break and you can see Chuck E. Cheese and E.L. Fudge.

There is a great tshirt on the tshirthell web site that says "Support the arts, shoot a rapper"

It's probably the best show the Stones did since 2005/2006.

Exactly. It's great someone starts a thread and it almost looks like all the others hated it. If you checked out the older threads about superbowl, there were about three right after the show, you would see that we loved it.
I was pretty impressed, actually moved, and proud. Great performance, Mick was fantastic.

Funny thing, I am active on some guitar boards, and the general opinion on these boards by non-Stones fans: that was truly horible, the Stones MUST quit now....

I thought it was decent. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad, it was just the way the Stones are these days. I thought Jagger has sung better lately then on this gig(he seemed to be nervous and out of breath), Wood played better than usual.

for instance, in the Macca forum almost everyone trashed the Stones' performance, saying it's been "horrible". I think that maybe it's because it had a kind of a garage - band feel, unlike all the previous halftime performances. By that I mean that it sounded sloppy, I don't want to start another debate on what garage - band means or not, please.

I was pretty happy with that performance, especially considering that, as you can read in Chuck's diary, it really is a though job to play LIVE at the Superbowl.

Let's face it people....the stones are OLD!! I love them dearly but you can't pretend to be 25 yrs old forever, and that's what they look like they're doing to me (except for Charlie) Doing the Superbowl was a big mistake. Players were asked before the game as to what their favorite stones song was...most could not even NAME a stones song! To see the flesh on Jagger's arms jiggling like it does when he raises them is not what a lot of people want to see (he should keep long sleeves on?). I think the pecentage of people under the age of 40 who are stones fans is quite small and the Superbowl crowd is a relatively young one, therefore the negative reviews.

Personally, I thought the performance was pretty fair. Guitars were great in RJ, stage was cool. It was obvious that the cameras were afraid to stay on Keith for any mor than 3 seconds at a time, too scary for the youngsters!

Time for the boys to tone things down a bit, get away from these huge events and play their music to real fans in a stripped-down fashion and in smaller venues (and maybe for cheaper tix prices!?)

Neil Young said it..."Comes A Time"...

In smaller venues for cheaper tix prices, definitely.

Age is a state of mind. I think the way Mick looks like could most of all be an insipration. I don't understand your remarks, there are many others who are blown away watching him. That the players don't know stones songs, what exactly does that mean for the stones or for their fans? Nothing. Doing superbowl was not "a big mistake", they rocked and pleased their fans, so?

Super cool

Again, agree. But as long they sell out big stadiums the chance is very small.

Most of the members are vintage guitar freaks, some having litteraly a million dollars worth of collections. Most are around 50 years old, and all drenched in late '60s, early 70's guitar music: Duane Allman, Clapton, Paul Bloomfield, ZZ Top, Peter Green, Stones (mostly Mick Taylor), Led Zeppelin etc.

"Flesh".... grinning smiley on Jagger!
But seeing such a slim, top-trained body on a 62 t o, thats´s amazing.
Even your 'flesh' will hang some day, ktm!

Shouldn't this tell us enough?
These people wanted the Stones to retire in '75. The SB just gave them a chance to bitch again. Who cares?

(P.S. The whole 'arm flab' thing is the stupidest thing I ever read. Thank God this is Mick Jagger, who will never be coerced into wearing long sleeves! grinning smiley)

its amazing that people did not like it, i thought it was great, what was the problem, it was a great stones performance , and they rocked, it was the first time in super bowl history that the halftime show was better than the game
