I think he wrote a book a few years back. Sort of a tell all memoirs. Other than that I, too, have lost touch. I bet Baboon Bro can tell us?

He still tours. Just a year ago my friend(who doesn't like the Animals) saw them and said it was the best show he ever saw. Eric still has the voice.

Bought the Animals Greatest Hits, ABKCO hybrid SACD remaster recently. Awesome sound, just like the Stones remasters. Eric still tours. I think he was in Vancouver recently playing at a local casino.
Seems the Animals albums are difficult to find on CD. I usually only see compilation CD's, although I have the Animalism's album on CD.
Have to remember that Eric and the Animals is basically a totally different band than the original Animals. First keyboardist Alan Price left, then drummer John Steel, then bassist Chas Chandler (who went on to produce alot of others including basically "discovering" Jimi Hendrix. Finally guitarist Hilton Valentine decided to leave. Almost Spinal Tappish! "You are witnessing the birth of The Animals, Mk.6"
So many awesome songs - House of the Rising Sun, Bring It On Home To Me, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, etc.

He's got a brand new album that just was released - it's KILLER. He has a new road band and is embarking on a new world tour. He's been active in the studio and on the road alot in recent years.

John Steel and Hilton Valentine are still today touring as "The Animals". They will play Helsinki together with The Tremelous and Herman Hermits in the end of February.
Burdon is also touring with "Eric Burdon And The Animals". So, you can actually catch two different Animals on the road.

Eric Burdon was the signiture voice for the Animals. How could the "Animals" tour without him? His voice IS the Animals. It's like Creedence Clearwater Revisited, with 2 original members of CCR, but what are they without Fogerty's powerful vocals? Not even close to being CCR. Same with "Ten Years After". They still tour but without Alvin Lee.

Valentine would not be worth seeing. It's an abomination for he and Steel to be touring as The Animals. I have a recent Valentine album, and he can barely play decent skiffle stuff anymore. He completely lost his chops over 2 decades ago - anymore who saw the re-united original Animals tour in 1983 knows of what I speak.

Eric Burdon's voice had remained in great shape. I love this German show he did in 1996. The "Sky Pilot" on it sounds terrific!

throw Joe Cocker into that sentence, too, skippy. way off topic - there is a real guy vying for American Idol this year (yeah, can you believe I watch that? pure for the enterainment/amusement quality, I assure you)...the prematurely gray fella - he has an honest set of Cocker-esque pipes....

You're wrong, I saw them 2 or 3 times about 7-8 years ago and Valentine was great, really. It was pure nostalgia but musically it was very good.
Maybe 1983 tour and Valentine album are shit but he still plays very well, did you see them ??

wisertime - no can't say I have. I'll defer to you on that point. But, his new album "Skiffledog" hardly did anything to change my opinion on his playing abilities.

Yeah I believe you but I had to say that when I saw him with Animals II (yeah it was called like that) he really had the same playing as in the 60's.
The singer I saw with them is now with Dr Feelgood, he was very good.

good to know - if that's the case, it would be very cool to see him hook up with Eric again at some point - although that is very unlikely, it would seem. I saw Eric most recently at a gig in Marin County last fall - WAR came on right after him and everyone expected some kind of reunion for a song (spill the wine, for instance, which both acts still play) - inside word was that nobody could convince Eric to do it. A shame - he has a knack for burning bridges.

When I saw them for the first time they were on the same bill that the Yardbirds !! And god, The Yardbirds were amazing, really !! Gypie Mayo (ex-Dr Feelgood) played guitar, he's great. It was a free show !!

A Yardbirds with no Relf (not to mention Beck or Clapton)....geez, sounds like I could probably pull off an re-enactment of the Louis Armstrong Hot Five the way things are these days!

Check this reveiw of last Yardbirds disc (2003), you'll be surprised :

""""
I was shocked to see there was a new cd from the sixties British group The Yardbirds. My first thought was that this was a cd of unreleased material, but low and behold an all new release from this great rock band. Original members of The Yardbirds, Jim McCarty (drums) and Chris Dreja (rhythym guitar) as well as lead guitarist Jeff Beck who does a guest appearance are on this new release and a host of other artists such as Slash, Steve Lukather, Brian May, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, etc. This cd, while obviously not as stunning as the original 60's Yardbirds material, is suprisingly good. You've got some classics remade such as "I'm Not talking", "For Your Love", "Train Kept A Rollin'", "Shapes Of Things", "Over Under Sideways Down", "Mr You're A Better Man Than I", "Happening Ten Years Time Ago", "The Nazz Are Blue" as well as other songs such as "Crying Out For Love", "Please Don't Tell Me 'Bout The News", "Mr Saboteur", "My Blind Life", "Mystery Of Being", "Dream Within A Dream" and "An Original Man" (a song for Keth Relf). The Yardbird's new vocalist John Idan, (on some songs, mostly the classics) tries very hard to sound like original vocalist Keth Relf who died years ago, and he does a fantastic job. As a matter of fact the entire new line up of Yardbirds sounds great alongside the several original members. This is a cd that will not only appeal to those of us that grew up in the 60's and loved the music of this great rock band, but also to a new generation of music lovers. Long Live The Yardbirds! Highly Recommended.""""

I saw Eric Burton and the Animals when they did a reunion show back in the early 80's I think. I was there first North American show. It was in a beautiful old theatre. The entire original band members were there. Great show.

Eric Burton just stood at the mic and sang. No theatrics, very little spoken between songs.

By the way the show was sold out and my friend got the only ticket outside but he opened a door right inside the dark theatre and I ran in and sat down.

I just pulled the book out of my archives...it was published in 1986. The title is: "I Used to be an Animal, But I'm All Right Now". He actually says in the prologue: "Over the years I did not keep a dairy. Most of what you are about to read are memories, dreams, feelings, and evn hallucinations, but that's rock and roll".
