Man, the stage that they used for the Superbowl gig was AWESOME. It looked totally cool.
Logistically, I know it's pie in the sky, but it would be sweet if they did another tour, they used this concept.
Having a bunch of fans within the tongue, better than the 'on stage' thing they've got going on at the moment. reminded me of the Metallica snake pit, or Van Halens recent tour - very cool.
also, using this concept puts them 'in the round' popular a few years ago. meaning that wherever you are in the in the arena, you can't be any further than half way back.
I know jaggers not keen on the concept, but there was talk about it before the new tour, personally I would have preffered it to what they finally used.
Same thoughts here, would be great to see them on that stage. It's also nicer to see them in the middle of a stadium instead of at one end of it. Mick can rock the audience on every side (although he seemed a bit lost / maybe overwhelmed ? / on it last night) The concept was also used on U2's ELEVATION Tour (heart-shaped stage), but the tongue is much cooler, of course ;-). It also gives the guitarists room to move on two sides still looking more "natural" than the sidewings of a big stadium stage. Did you notice the lighting, too? Beautiful, wasn't it? All in all, a really nice surprise and they really rocked the house! I'm still hyped by that great performance... ;-)
Very nice stage design. A few years ago (before Licks) I had an idea that the Stones at some point would use a tongue-shaped stage for an arena tour. Though a bit smaller than this one.
It gives the other musicians license to move around a bit which only adds to the visual of the show.Probably not a bad idea for them. It’s also a great excuse to come back and tour again. Why Not!
----------------------------------------------------- Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, that was a cool stage! (I didn't have the channel that sent the concert on TV.) It would have been even cooler if the tongue closed afterwards, so all the people "inside" was dragged into the mouth. And they would all find themselves backstage, partying with the Stones! :-)
U2 are also using this on their current tour -- they call it the ellipse. The fans are let in by a lottery; you find out when your ticket is scanned if you get in. It seems to be my lot in life never to be one of the chosen ones!
I agree with the thoughts posted here about the Stones' Superbowl stage -- flamin' groovy!
You'd hear U2 and whomever else has done some of stage that reaches out in to the crowd say that the Stones "followed."
but I still think they should do it... with a small catwalk at the tip of the tongue leading to the bstage (but I imagine that would only really work in stadiums)
I was saying the same thing. A center stage would be something new and different. It's not expensive at all(positive for the ticket prices!) and easy to build up.
Well, if they used that tongue-stage for the next tour, could you imagine the price of the "inside-the-tongue"-tickets? Twenty thousand dollars each teeth?
Man, I just watched the show again. It totally ROCKED!! I was a bit merry last night when it was on and don't think I appreciated it as much as I could of, but SHIT, they were seriously rockin'.
I was imagining what a tour would be like with that set up. Man, it would be righteous. come on lads, get on it.
If there is any truth to the rumours about the stones going back to the US for a few arena dates after the UK, then they would be complete fools not to go with this set up, It's Proper!!
I just bought the stage for my own use. I will assemble it in my backyard and use it as a Rolling stones shrine. Maybe I can get Sir paul to come over and kiss it and worship the ground that The Stones have stood on. LONG LIVE THE ROLLING STONES!!
