not a bad set.... rough justice wasn't great, and i don't think it fit in really well. does anyone else agree with me?

the guitars on start me up sound sooooo dirty. this dead man almost came when i heard them blast out on my tv. this is the way SMU is meant to sound.

For what it was...ie..tv.You have to excuse the sound when a stage like that gets set up in 5 minuets... They were great! Better than great. They were most interesting half time show/group in a very long time of the superbowl half time shows and 12 minuets is just not enough. The set went very fast. One more thing.Ronnie sounded great hands down. Both Keith and Ronnie were on. Just like someone else said on the board, very punk...Period!

Just watched a reply then...
Not too bad overall...thank god !! I was cringing at the opening chords of SMU thinking "this band could make themseleves look really silly if they f*ck this up..." but they did a good performance.
If it wasn't for Mick this band would be in serious trouble.

Keith & Ronnie should keep the guitar solos to a minimum, Ronnie got through the SMU solo just...still very sloppy.
Keith's solo during Satisfaction was average...only got through it because he's a legend.

Mick was outstanding as usual....

The camera was focussed a bit too much on Mick but that could have been intentional ..?

Rough Justice was gutsy at least...although was played poorly.

Overall a 7/10, they didn't disgrace themseleves, although I never like groups performing at Sports events....

Overall really good! I'd love to see a whole arena sho with this setup.
A big razz to Westwood One for airing interviews during the Stones' set. I was on the road at the time and I had to wait until I got home to see it. Nobody's mentioned this but I could hear Street Fightin' Man in the background during the interviews so they did not air the whole performance on TV. I'd like to hear from someone who was there.

Really? Maybe it came from tape, as they did before the performance (they played "It's Only Rock'n'Roll" then).

The Stones could @#$%& up an intro out of 20, during a "usual" show. They could play a 7/10 during a mediocre night. But they couldn't perform without being 100% concentrated on a show like this (i mean, 90 million of people were seeing them). I give to this performance atleast a 8.5 /10. Maybe 9/10.

After all, i believe what NY Times wrote recently - i mention this once again because i ...like it: the Stones during an "on" night are stellar, on an "off" night they are still decent. That's the difference between them and the 95% of the other rock bands of this planet.

The Stones don't follow anyone man - they are unique and the half-time show was awesome - if you can't see it, or feel it, you'll never understand what it's all about!

"till the next time..."

The Stones ROCKED so hard I couldn't believe it. Read my TV-review on the review site when BV puts it up.

I thought they were GREAT and the black outfits were the best. I'm so glad Jagger didn't go with some red leather jacket and hat like he did to open the football season.

Wood was great.

Not enough camera time for Keith.

Not mentioned yet, at least in this thread, but did any one else notice that Jagger seemed surprised when they started Satisfaction? At first I thought the band started the wrong song as they did in Philly and I was expecting JJF as some insider had posted the day before what the set list was going to be. Then I thought that couldn't possibly happen. Why was Jagger surprised, he yelled something. Any thoughts?

Maybe they had agreed JJF & Keith slipped over to Satisfaction.
Easily done, would be a great lil mistake grinning smiley

I enjoyed it. Yeah, found Ronnie was on big time, Mick performed fabulously given the context, sang great Satisfaction...
I think it was hot they performed a new song for that little TV set: Rough Justice rocked great! (rootsy RnR is was the Stones are about, basically)
The sound was horrible for sure, but that was the TV feed right? (too lazy to read all the posts)

Hi folks

I see some of you have posted that at the Super Bowl show, the guitars couldn't be heard (or were buried into mix.) Thats NOT what I thought!! In my opinion (from what I heard/saw on my TV), Keith stood waay out in front. Really kick-ass guitar sound!I have no idea how these things work: but could some TVs (audio) produce, or pick up, a different mix than others? (hence the different opinions on the guitar mix)?

At times, I thought Ron Wood sounded OK, but when ever the camera focused on him, he had a strange, bewildered look in his eyes. Not good. His spark is gone.

For the most part, I thought the boys kicked bum! Mick didn't look 62 years old; Keith was in rare form; Charlie was--as always--looked and sounded great (best drummer in rock!). I'm so happy for him: making full recovery from cancer...such a great bloke! Darryl Jones was locked-into the groove. Although I like Chuck and his playing, I'm glad his piano didn't overshadow Keith & Ronnie.

Overall, they proved they are the still the best R & R band! A classic, historic night!

Great to see 'em up there on that very cool stage........exiting, raw and the guitars were up in the mix......ballsy...........Mick as always was excellent working the crowd.......incredible for a group in their 60's

Horrible mix but a smoking performance. The solo on Satisfaction was plain fantastic.

I am typically an OpenG defender, but this is really a strange review. The Stones were by far, the best part of the Superbowl.

I think Keith just started it a bit too early, and Mick wanted to say something else. Because he said that this song could have been played at the first SuperBowl, I am pretty sure that Satisfaction was planned, not JJF.

I agree with previous posts that the mix was terrible. Not enough guitars but they fixed it towards the end. The stage was awesome and they sounded great! Keith finally had a good bit of fuzz on his guitar and that was badly needed! They rocked. ONe of my friends said that she liked Aerosmith better after the performance. First, I reminded that they had to have justin timberlake and britney spears in thier set. Yawn. Then I put her on "my list" never to be removed again.

To repeat myself the Stones sounded great!

Go Dawgs!!!

If you didn't like that performance, you just don't like the Rolling Stones or rock 'n' roll.

Yahoo news :

"About 2000 volunteers danced on the field, most surrounding the stage but some surrounded by it in what would be the "tongue" portion of the logo"

VOLUNTEERS... Now, I understand the difference between the front row and the steps...
