It's the best news I've heard in a long time, too. Hope he do a tour afterwards. I knew he couldn't be a radio-jockey forever.

That's something to look forward too!
Has he announced any tour plans yet?

I picked up dylan's golden vanity boot from various locations from 1988-1992 all
the tracks are traditional.

Greaattt!!!!

That's the news I've been waiting for looooooong...

Now he has two masterpieces to follow up. I am sure he will nail it , once again. The high standard of TOOM and L&T and the long gaps bewtwenm the releases seem to indicate that he don't record if he don't feel like doing it, if there is no a muse around. There is no need to any Down In the Groove, Knocked Out Loud, Under The Red Sky sort of albums any more. I got the feeling that it's gonna be another masterpiece. Somehow I trust Dylan very much nowadays (I suppose HE don't appreciate that very much! smiling smiley

there seems to be some concern in Dylan-fanatic circles that this report is a hoax. Hope not. There was one in '96 that was eerily similar....

I hope it's not a hoax. If it is, then heads will roll for it!!

from NME.COM:

Dylan working on new album

According to reports, he spent four days last week rehearsing the material with an unspecified band, prior to entering a studio this week.

The album is planned as the long-awaited follow-up to 2001's 'Love & Theft', and follows the success of the soundtrack to Martin Scorcese's 2005 biopic, 'No Direction Home'.

Dylan and five unnamed musicians rehearsed the new material from Tuesday to Friday (January 31-February 3) last week behind closed doors at the Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie, New York, reports the local paper The Poughkeepsie Journal.

"It was experimental, all kinds of different licks," according to the venue's executive director Chris Silva, who watched the sessions. "They would get into one thing and they would go over it and over it, then they would change gears."

Silva added that Dylan rehearsed for four to five hours each day without a break, and indicated that recording sessions would start in a Manhattan studio this week.

Since the release of 'Love & Theft', the only new Dylan recordings to appear have been on film soundtracks, The most recent, 'Tell Ol' Bill', was released on the OST to the Nick Caro-directed film 'North Country'.

the fact that (uncharacteristically) Dylan still has no concerts scheduled in the immediate future would indicate that his short term plans would include some studio work

there were rumours some months ago of Australian shows in the spring but thats gone quiet, and theres talk of a few festival dates in continental Europe in the summer - but otherwise, nothing. Usually by now, his touring plans up to April-May would be known.

Just 1 man's opinion. I thought it might be a rather interesting combo and not to mention that I've read before that it had been casually discussed.

One shouldn't mix ones family into ones art.
(I think, but it doesn't mean you are wrong or anything like that)

I don't think this report is true, nothing on the Dylan sites I usually visit. Hope I'm wrong though. The man is pure genius. Really miss the Sexton/Campbell era though, that was awesome. "masked and anonymous" is worth the price of the dvd just for the footage of the band in action. I wish he'd come out from behind the keyboard as well. Long live Bob. It's getting sad as the end nears for so many of our heroes from the sixties.

Hopefully he'll hire someone to sing the new songs he writes. His voice on the last two releases was unlistenable!

Re: Dylan is in the studio

nonsense - his voice has grown to suit the type of world-weary songs he's writing

cant imagine Dylan's voice as it was "Highway 61" or "Nashville Skyline" wprking half as well on songs like "Not Dark Yet" as it does on "Time out of mind"

I can't get enough of Dylan's voice as is today. Especially all of 'Time out of mind'. that album got me back into the man's work. i think i overloaded on the 60's stuff few years back.

'love and theft' and 'time out' led me onto to all the amazing 70's and lots of great 80's work that always production wise is way past the 60's pop/lo-fi sounds and often the songwriting too. i can not wait for anything new! saw the film 'north country' yest. just to hear the new track from him. and spellbound. his other tracks used went so well the film seemed to be fitted around them!

anything he does these days is total treasure. and more so with every listen. whoooeeeiiioooo!

I'm free to do what I want any old time...
I'm free to sing my song knowing it's out of trend
