Just to let folks know Todays the 47th Anivesary of the Death of One of Music's Greatest Singer's and one of the Stone's influence's (Not Fade Away)

Also died on this fatefull night with Buddy,

The Big Bopper and Ricthie Valens.

How would they sound like today if they were alive?

Ever Danced with a One Legged Woman?

I think Big Bopper was just a gimmick, not meant to last musically.

Buddy had talent, but was way too smooth for the Rock´n Roll Jerry Lee or
the early Elvis stood for.

He wrote alot of music in his short 22years .
Always liked the stones opening with not fade away on the Voodoo lounge tour.

R.I.P, Buddy. He was an incredible talent - way ahead of his time. It's really a shame how he was never given the chance to accomplish everything he could have.

Same can be said about Sam Cooke & Otis Redding, though that's a topic for another thread.

Yep, but I have to say here that the Stone's original version of "Satisfaction" morphed in to Otis Reddings' version over the years. when they play concerts now, there is Very little difference. Too show-boaty for me.

Dont agree....he had an incredible talent as singer and songwriter, his records were quite innovative production-wise at the time and of all of those early rockers, had he lived I think he would have ended up only second to Elvis (and Johnny Cash if you want to spread the musical net a bit further) as an all-time great. As Juan says, he was way ahead of his time.

I certainly wouldnt call "Rave On" 'way too smooth'. He could rock n roll as good as anyone, without question.

Buddy Holly was ,in my humble opinion, one of the most important artists in Rock and Roll.He popularized the basic 4 man band,Rhythm Guitar ,Lead,Drums, and Bass.It wasn't very common in the 50's when he did it.I know Nikki Sullivan was only with him for a bit in 1957 ,then went back to a 3 piece, but it is the four man band that help inspire the Stones ,as Mick and Keith both said ,and the Beatles,as John Lennon and Paul McCartney have said.Buddy had a remarkable ear for a great melody, which is hard to come by these days.I have seen a interview with Keith from about 10 years ago or sowhere he talks very fondly of Buddy and his overlooked importance on the Stones music and Rock and Roll in general. Also as a side note, I received a letter today from Sherry Holley , Buddy's niece. We have kept in contact over the years and she is a very nice lady who does her best to keep Buddy's name in the minds of Rock and Roll fans.Well, sorry for the long-winded post ,but this topic is one I really enjoy.

Buddy is the man.
I've been a huge fan for as long as i can remember.
I'm a member of Holly International Fanclub, and love the music, that still sounds so fresh, today, in the 21st century.
Hopefully one day, Maria-Elena will solve her dispute with the record company, and Buddy's legacy can be commemorated and enjoyed by a younger generation, with a box-set of his work, that he so richly deserves, and we are so eager to hear.

Every day is a Holly day.

But did he write Not Fade Away? Always thought the Womacks did.

Buddy wrote it- but as usual,
Norman Petty took a slice of credit and most of the profits...

Not Fade Away

Lyrics: Hardin/Petty
Music: Hardin/Petty

I wanna tell you it's gonna be
You're gonna give your love to me
I wanna love you night and day
You know our lovin' not fade away
You know our lovin' not fade away
Not fade away

My love is bigger than a Cadillac
I try to show you but you drive me back
Your love for me has gotta be real
You're gonna know just how I feel
A love that's real not fade away
Not fade away
