Carla Olson used to front the Textones - a highly regarded 80's band. She's done a lot of solo albums since - including ones that feature Mick Taylor. the Too Hot for Snakes album is essential for one song (there are other good ones too):

An Epic 8-minute Sway that features the most brilliant guitar solo ever laid down by MT. It's must-listen stuff. Carla acquits herself well on the vocal line and Ian McLagan delivers punch on the organ.

You'll think you've died and gone to heaven...no hyperbole.

Taylor's performance of Sway just shows how great he would have been with the Stones today! Awesome.
Get this CD !!

I have tried getting this too.I know it's brilliant.Anything Mick Talyor has done with Carla is worth getting.I have the Ring of truth CD,featuring the pair, and it's amazing.Winter is on there too,and it blows the original guitar playing into the dust.

stargroover - is this the new CD recently released ??

It was released in 2001,on evangeline. There is a web address

www.evangeline.co.uk

I picked it up at Palace records in the Dam a few years ago.

Winter is 12 minutes long.Amazing!I am no Talyor authority but I would say its probably the best thing he has done since the Stones.

He is featured on most tracks on the album. There all brilliant, and his guitar is so prominent.

ahhh...and to think that some people on this board reckoned he was going downhill.....

Thanks stargroover..

I'll get Ring of Truth and Too Hot For Snakes.

In regard to MT going downhill. He shines on Sway and Winter- two of the most MT influenced Stones songs. Just proves the right time, right place, right song- he's still MT. But he's not a great individual writer or performer but shines under the right circumstances.

I still think he will record with the guys again. The climates not right now,but in the future I could certainly see it.A studio recording is more likely than a live appearance.Charlie Watts still admires MT,and so does MJ.The talent is still there. And I Know from a conversation I had with MT{see my interview with MT} that he would be up for it.

I have two versions of Sway with Carla Olson, one about 7 minutes and the other just under 6, the 7 minute one is much better quality, but both versions have very flashy solos. As for Winter, the 12 something minute version isnt that special...its ok as a jam but is mostly noodling and not nearly as exciting as Sway.

Frankie, i was dissapointed by this. She sounds like a bar room cover for Dolly parton!

Ok now I'm getting conflicting reviews. I listen to the 30 second bites on Amazon. I'll think if I can get both and not spend too much money- I'll do it.

In 2004, Carla's site reported 2H4S was being reissued. Rumors on the Internet were that the reissue would be part of a double-CD, adding a live YGTM (which was included in the Japanese release) as well as outtakes from Mick Taylor sessions (including a shorter Winter). There has been no reissue as of yet and Carla's site does not seem to have been updated in a while.

Frankie - Some of her other releases with Mick Taylor guesting are worth getting

Carla & Mick recorded: Too Hot For Snakes back in 1990 at the Roxy out here in
LA, there were (2) show's I went to the 1st show, the recording is the 2nd.
I think Taylor was more amped for the 1st show which I have as a boot,
when they announced their next number would be : SWAY

we jumped out of our chairs!!! Taylor didn't disappoint

Frankie - look into these two:

Within An Ace - The actual song on this CD is the one to key on.
Taylor's leads are spot-on!!!!!

Reap the Whirlwind - again the actual song with Taylor playing the main lead
is another must-have for Taylor fans...

Hey Karl. Isn't that like when Moe asks Curly "are you asleep?".

Of course I am me. Who else could I be?

Who's on first?

I don't like Carla's singing.

Yeah, her voice is annoying, but MT's solo on Sway is just smoking amazing.
Did I hear somebody making a comparison with Ron? Certainly not me...

To each his own. I think she she has a great tone and a nice variety of voices, including a wonderful sultry one on Trying to Hold On on this album. One thing, though, is that the vibrato is sometimes a little wide for my taste.
