Here is a message from an old man who has not smoked pot for the last 12 years.
Please take care as to what you buy. Do not buy the strongest stuff that is available. Buy something mellow. Use a waterpipe if possible. Avoid spacecake, it doesn't do anything to you for as long as 2 hours. So you might be in for a bad surprise. Smoking pot is OK, but take care. And don't mix it with alcohol.

Barney's on the "Haarlemmerstraat", 5 minutes walk from the central station. Chosen as the best shop in Amsterdam for 5 years in a row.

I used to smoke weed quite a lot 15 years ago, but they cultivated the stuff so strong that it has become a hard drug in my opinion. Smoke it, and you're completely gone for the next two hours. You wake up noticing you have been watching Tell Sell for the entire evening. Not my cup of tea.

Da Dampkring, it's great. What a selection. They have bio (soil grown), which I much prefer over hydro!! They also have amazing organic product from SOMA, Buddahs Sister or Somango. Try a single puff of Ocean's 12!!!! Or Haze SAGE!!! They also have high quality rif man hash. Then go to the Van Gough Museum for a couple of hours!

Why not do one of those "head shops" that has peyote or shrooms ?

Cherry Red- Right on. Dampkring is owned by the same people as Tweed Kamir. The best selection of EVERYTHING and a Cannibis Cup Award Winner several times. My first stop upon arrival in Amsterdam. An absolute must. Rokerig is another great on. Ask around about "NYC Diesel". It is the product that is the talk of the town.
Barney's is the 1st cofffeeshop to open that serves an English breakfast. Try the "Bubblegum" for dessert.
Abraxas,BABA is good as well as Greenhouse Effect on Warmeostraat.

Anyone got any tips on what to ask for if you wat to get nice and mellow.

Yeah, any form of high-quality indica-based hashish is going to be about 1 or 2 tokes to zonkville...

some connoiseurs swear that a 100% sativa weed is more of a cerebral high than a body/mind zonkout.

Related, a small amount of peyote can be alot of fun... there's supposed to be head shops that have it ready to go.

And watch out for the "headshops". That can be a very ugly experience. Just go in and ask for something mellow. Not too strong. In a good coffeeshop, like the Dampkring, they will tell you what is good for starters. Expensive usually means strong, so just be a cheap bastard.

MAXX- I visit Amsterdam for two weeks every year. I'll assist you with your research.

1- go to www.smokersguide.com You will see a listing of the different productsi.e weed, blonde,dark hash) with a review by the Bush Doctor regarding the effects. It is VERY helpful.

2- Start either with "Bubblegum" or "NYC Diesel". I prefer the "NYC Diesel'. It is awesome.You will feel great and it wont to turn you into a zombie.

3- Take the tram and head to The Dampkring.It has the BEST product in ADAM. The best variety and best quality.( You want the best, ask for the "Iceolator".) There is nothing like in the world. The dealers are cool and very helpful. Do not be afraid to ask about the product and its effects.

4- Each coffeeshop is different. Read the reviews on the web site I referred you to and you will be fine. Good luck.

Yep, the Bulldog sucks. And has done so for many years. And is expected to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. That has nothing to do with venting your spleen. The bulldog is a tourist trap.
