Bringing young kids to concerts?
Posted by: buck ()

Am I crazy to bring my 4 (almost 5) year old to the Omaha concert? Has anyone had experience taking someone this young - how did it go? He watches Flicks all the time and plays the drums. I think he's ready.

buck-I have a 6 year old I've taken to 2 Stones shows on this tour & he loved both of them. In fact, his words at the first show were "this is the greatest day of my life" Keep in mind though that he's really been into the Stones since the HBO live broadcast & we watch Four Flicks together quite often. I agree with some of the others that have posted on other threads that's it's probably not a good idea to "drag" kids to shows at that age but if they are truly fans & they are somehwhat mature for their age, I'd go for it.

there was a 4 year old boy at the miami concert back in october sitting in the row in front of us.

he knew all the songs and had a total blast....and we enjoyed watching him go crazy throughout the show.

i say bring the kid....make sure you play most of the songs for him at home that he will likely hear at the show beforehand so he can really enjoy it.

imagine 60 years from now when he can brag to people that he saw the stones in omaha in 2006!!!!

who knows...they may still be touring then!

these days i keep my party favors on the inside, consumed before the show, not during. even i can hold out for 2-3 hours. don't count on others doing the same, however! let the buyer beware!

I'd say that it would be okay... This tour there are no "offensive" screen shots of nudes or any un-toward language OR any pot-smoking for that matter.

It's about like taking your kids to a baseball game, really.

Take some ear plugs just in case it is too loud.

The kids love it for sure just like they do always love to be with their parents for rare events. But their hearing is a lot more sensitive so mild earplugs is a must. And watch the crowd. With open admission a kid can easily be seriously hurt when the crowd is moving. So stay close at all times and keep away from moving crowds. Which means the B-stage is not safe always for a kid. Enjoy the show!

Regarding the "ripp off" which happens everywhere in todays world, this is maybe a silly question, but:
Does anyone know if kids up to 6 / 7 years old have to pay full ticket-prices?

Re: Bringing young kids to concerts?

The Stones don't really run a social profile. Every seat cost the same, whether you are old, young, blind, deaf, student, pregnant or even if you are not a fan at all. And to be honest I can't really see how a multi-price system on tickets for the same seat for a show would work. May be they do it for sports? But for a show where they turn off the lights for most of the event? How would you be able to check tickets in the dark, for age, discount level, seat, section, personal id, discount card and all those things? As most kids don't go to shows I think they don't bother with that.

I took my 8 & 10 year old sons to Chicago (Soldier Field). I would not have done so had I not got us three seats second row up from the field. I didn't want them to have people standing in front of them, blocking their view. I figured one row of people in front would show mercy. Indeed the gods of R&R sent us an angel in the form of a mom escorting her two teen sons to THEIR first Stones show sitting in front of us. Site lines were never a problem and my kids thought the moving b-stage made the Stones look like they were on a boat.

I think it really depends on your kids. I had a father with three boys besides me at the hollywoodd bowl and they have been bored. The youngest one slept during the whole show. I think if you spend that money for your kids it's a great gift and a good thing, but you should be honest to yourself first if you would like to do it. But it could be a memory of a lifetime. I met people who saw Hendrix or such ones when they where 7 or 8 and they still remember it.

I was at a concert when I was 9. And I left my family, after a few songs, and managed to get way up front. People was so kind because I was small. It was amazing for a kid! But it's true about the airplugs. I felt completely deaf after the show.

If you do...EAR PLUGS are a must.
I witnessed a young child, 3 or 4 years old crying and holding his ears at MSG last fall. Not a pretty sight.

Maybe here in Spain the concerts are seen much more as a party that over there, but I would never take an 8 year old to a Stones concert here, at least not in the pitch. I have no children but I wouldn't take them.

It's a Stones gig: I want to smoke a joint without seeing an 8 year old two meters from me.

Not here in Spain, mate...

did ya crowd-surf erik_snow? smiling smiley.......seriously, about the earplugs...i've played loud music with Marshall stacks and Ampeg amps for about 25 years and i've developed tinitus (not sure about the spelling)...it's a constant ringing in the ears (and it will never go away)...so it's a serious matter if you go to a lot of loud shows

That's a shame. Hope the ringing isn't too loud. I read about a person who had 130 dB ringing in his ears.
By the way, Leonard, I was in Oslo earlier this week (it's a long way down to Oslo from here). And I searched in every "used-LP/CD-store" (can't remember the English word) for Lazy Cowgirls. The clerks had heard about the band, but they didn't have anything in the store. I guess the internet is the only way to find it.

Erik_Snow..played Oslo in '95 on the first show of a european tour...it was of course a small club and had a plywood stage....our singer is built like George Costanza and was jumpin about the stage during the first song and he went through the stage...his upper torso was sticking out and he kept on singing...funny stuff......if ya email me your mailing address...i'll burn ya some Lazy Cowgirl stuff

I took my son to the opening gig in Boston last year and as you can see he had a whale of a time!He was dancing and jumping around and probably enjoyed the show more than me.I had one eye on the show and the other on him.He was 3 at the time.Go for it!

Hey there...glad to see a fellow Nebraskan!

I've been to several shows at the Qwest Center...there is usually a good amount of pot smoking, but it depends on the show. Green Day was suprisingly clear, but Paul McCartney and U2 were both hazy on some areas of the floor. So if that plays a role in your decision, I might leave your kid at home.

Otherwise, hell that's the opportunity of a lifetime for you kid! My mom almost took me to see Springsteen with her in Lincoln in 1984, but ended up going with a friend instead. If your kid loves the music as much as you do, it would be a great experience :-)

I'm just against it for children under 10. The Rolling Stones are about adult themes and many will be consuming adult beverages and other adult items during the concert. It's called adult for a reason. No offense to the children....I just think it is an adult event.

I missed them unfortunatly...but I sort of saw them at a free show in Chicago during the taste. And I mean sort of because I was about 1/2 mile away!

You're going to get a lot of differing opinions here. I personally would not take a 4 year-old to a Stones concert. But if you decide to do it, PLEASE, bring earplugs that will fit and stay in his ear, and make sure that keeping them in his ear is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Young children will say anything to get their way, and he may not like the feel of the ear plugs, but, for his sake, you should insist that they stay in.
