I like bothe The 67concert version from Paris andthe one from the licks tour.

i would have to agree with the 89 steel wheels version being the best.....keith and ronnie just rock out to that song!!!

suprised you don't like it at all.

while paint it black is ALWAYS great to hear in concert.....it just doesn't rock the way it did in 89.

I second Bremen '98 - that's the best version I have.

I loved it on the NS tour, too - especially the April 12th show in Chicago - it sounded like a death-march at the end - totally intense!

Anybody have the Paris '67 version?

Cheers,

John

little queenie-where were you sitting last night? I was in section 112 & was very disappointed with PIB. It was one of the songs I was looking forward to. I'm thinking it might be where I was sitting as it seems like everyone else thought it was one of the better songs last night.

i was at the front row of section 7 - the section in "front" of the B-stage (with Kahoosier!). the sound on the main stage seemed fine - but the sound at the B-stage was not good - due to the fact we were right in the middle of it bouncing around, i think.

89/90 is imo the best. it is the "darkest" and "deepest" version. Just as it should be.

anyone hear the animals' version at the monterey pop festival in 67... eric burdon has such a cool, deep voice kinda more haunting than Mick on this tune

never heard that version...but it makes sense....you're right, Burdon does have a dark, haunting voice...and it works great on House Of The Rising Sun

Is the animals version in the monterey pop movie, roKR? Or an album?

brian compliments the animals in an interview I heard from about '64. There was some respect there.

I was there at the SF Nov 13 show - and the version of Paint It Black that they played at this show was awesome - one of the best live versions that I have ever heard - anyone else agree?

Honolulu '66.

Mick forgets the lyrics and starts laughing in the middle of the song. The band sounds great.

My favorite version is the one from Flashpoint. The band is really tight there. I love the acoustic intro and the hardness on Mick's voice, especially at the end when he is improvising. And Charlie of course is awesome! That's also the most aggressive version of that song too I think. Perfect.
