help using torrents please!

OK so now I've torrented "Cirkus Krone" from the rocks off torrent. Now I got all these Flac files; I also have a FlacFrontEnd program, and DivX player; now what do I do with the files??? I've tried putting them all in the FrontENd and saying "decode" or "encode" or whatever but nothing happens and I do understand at all how to convert these files into sound... Sorry for bothering, it's just so frustrating! Thanks for your advices.

Open Flacfrontend and push the "add files" button. select all the files you want to be converted to wma's. After you have selected all the files you should see them in de window of the flacfrontend program.

Next you have to select a map were you want the converted files to go to. you can do that by pushing the button that is underneath "output directory".

After you have done this you can click on decode and the decoding should begin.

Flac files are no different to any other files as far as windows is concerned. If you have a program that is associated with a flac file, then when you double click on the file, that program will open the file.

If not try opening your flac program and then go to the file menu and open file. Then point it to the file you want to open...

Alternatively, if you can't get that to work, get a program that will convert the flac files to mp3 (scarilege?) and then you can hear them. There are plenty of these programs on the internet, but I can get one for you for free if you wish, then I'll email it to you!

Ian.

I play all my flac files directly with Toast, no need to convert them. That's on a Mac, but I guess there must be similar programs for other operating systems.

Hummm now I have another problem: I'm torrenting something else but there is a problem, "unable to identify...whatever... check your firewall and router". It seems my security devices blocked the torrent? Is there any way I can allow the torrent without opening my computer to all viruses?
Many thanks in advance again for any help!

You need to tell your firewall to allow your torrent program (eg Azureus) access to the internet. What puzzles me is that you have already downloaded torrents without any problems, so something has changed on your system?

Once you've told your firewall, you can download, but you can't upload if your IP address is always changing
so you need a static IP address instead of the DHCP gambling.
here's a quite funny wiki description about port forwarding

Most burners include the option to have a 2 second delay between tracks or not to have the delay....Windows Media Centre may do the same, though I don't use it myself...

suddenly having problems with Azureus/RO Tracker, after using it problem free, for 4-5 weeks.
I click on a torrent i want to download in RO, it asks me whether i want to open or save on my computer , if i press save, it saves the file, but doesnt appear in Azureus and start to download. whereas previously after clicking on a torrent it asked me where i wanted to save it (not open it) and it automatically started to download in Azureus.
Anyone got any ideas? I dont know what i'm doing wrong, and am scratching my head, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Adrian-L,

This happens because when Azureus updates itself it sometimes changes how it deals with the torrent file you save. It used to save it to a location of your choice, then you had to browse to the file within Azureus. Later versions of Azureus would default to an immediate download. The latest version has gone back to saving it to a location of your choice....and has a slightly different browse function....

Ho hum....why do they make it so complicated? Well, at least it still works!

Regards,

Ian.

trhanks Ian- i really appreciate you getting back to me on this...
(i've been tearing my hair out )

so how do i get the torrent to start downloading now? when i click on it , it just saves an azureus file to my harddrive, but nothing shows up as downloading.
what do i need to do?

OK...

Easy, open Azureus and go to the file menu....click on open....then browse to where the file is saved (make sure you know where it was saved to...if not, do a search for it)...click on the file and hey presto....you have the torrent downloading (it will ask you where to save it to first).

Ian.
