I'm sure Tina Turner in 1981 was awesome. Anyone see that?

the worst is the guy who Ive tried to forget but who just this minute has popped up on my TV screen to remind me - Justin Timberlake

regardless of how bad some performances have been by some guest artists on occasion (Sheryl Crow at Miami '94 (her other appearances have been fun), Dylan on a couple of occasions and Dave Matthews' massacring Memory Motel) at least those performers had artistic credibility

The Stones should never be sharing a stage with some refugee from a boy band.

The best ? Angus and Malcom Young on the Licks Tour, especially at the Enmore theatre show in Sydney

Best- Axl & Izzy- Salt of The Earth
Worst- Dave Mathews- He's cool, but Wild Horses sucks with him on vocals.

Robert Cray was good in '94 for Stop Breaking Down!

So far every comment has been honest. I am glad that the Rolling Stones NEVER jumped on the Kid Rock gravy train and invited him. For a period of a few years it seemed Kid Rock was on every award show, special, etc doing duets with A list performers.

Why?

Because he does nothing and you can't even hear him. I saw Atlantic City 89 on DVD yesterday and that's where I realized it.

You don't get it. He wasn't invited to play some beautiful guitar on a forgotten Stones song, he was there as a gesture from the Stones towards a band that had taken over the role of being the biggest band in the US. By 1989, GnR was bigger and more dangerous than the Stones, and that was the sole reason they were invited. Jagger wanted to sing with Axl Rose (enemy of the state number one in 1989), and Axl brought allong Izzy who must have been the biggest fan of Ron Wood by then. It's the same reason as why Wood was invited a couple on times on stage with GnR. Not because he is such a great player, but because he is Ron Wood.

And the reason Mathijs writes this is because he's a great fan of Axl Rose.
That's so sweet... and strange.

Well, he is just playing some rhythm, no big deal.
But I think you can see in his face that that night
was probably the best in his life. He has more to do with
the Stones than most of the others they are inviting from time
to time.

That's not the reason, but it is true I am a big fan of Axl. He was the last true rockstar in the dangerous sense if the word. He had this rare combination of sex, drugs and violence about him. The Stones (Jagger and Richards) had this in 1972, Johhny Rotten in 1977, and Axl in 1988. Check out GnR's gig Live at The Ritz from 1987, broadcasted on MTV. Axl's performance is up there with the best ever of Jagger in 1972. And without GnR, we would still be listening to the horrible big hair bands like Poisen and Motley Crue....

At first they also had big hair, but they were giving the
market what it wanted: hard chords, r&r lifestyle and attitude.
But in the end (when Izzy had left) it came to light that they
were just talentless and overrated as all the other ones trying
to copy the original.

I´d vote for the Black Crowes (Mark I). Much more talented.

Back on topic... Bo Didley's and Robert Cray's performances in Miami during the VL tour were very memorable. And as much as she has been slagged in this forum, I liked Sheryl Crow's duet with Mick on HTW on 4F...damn she is HOT!

The worst would have to be Taj Mahal (sp?). Not that it was a bad song or performance...but Mick clearly didn't want to be there doing that song and his performance suffered accordingly.

The two morons from GNR. The best BO Diddley

strange choice. If Mick didnt want to be there doing that song why did he

a) invite the guy onstage to sing it with him in the first place and
b) release the performance on a live album

that would suggest he was quite happy with it on all levels, I would have thought

pretty solid duet, I think

Well, Izzy wrote about 35% of Use Your Illusion 1 and 2, the rest was mainly written by Axl. What killed GnR was the money, the fame, and the drugs. They became a Vegas act when Izzy left, just as the Stones became a Vegas act when Wyman left. Both bands were doing it for the money from that point on, and not for the music.

I've been lucky to see Hubert Sumlin, Sheryl Crow, and Jonny Lang (the stones just love this kid)

I was one of many 500,000 fans unlucky enough to see Timberlake. He is atrocious.
At the Sarstock - he high-fives keith after keith yells at the fan for throwing the bottles on stage, but in the interview after the show, keith was saying he was protecting his bandmates... but if they have good aim, they can go ahead and hit timberlake

WHat about Elton John 1975? I've never heard it but understand Keith wanted him off teh stage and Elton wouldn't budge.

Would have to agree with "Chippy" on the EC "Little Red Rooster" performance with the Stones @ Atlantic City 1989 as being one of the best. A stunning solo by E.C. on that one.

I suppose that is Linda Ronstadt in the other photo? L.R. is a great vocalist! Any song between Mick and L.R. would have to be great in concert!

I am no fan of Clapton but he blew the roof off thew placw tih that solo on the "Rooster" in 89.
I don't like practically anyone who comes on stage anymore. They are all photo ops therse days. Or some politcal move by Jagger to drum up support in a demographic that he has no business recognizing.
To be honest I am very suprised Jagger has not tried to get P Diddy or soem other one up there yet. Watch him try to get Eminem LOL. You know, I bet he has tried but Keith has vetoed it..
Sheryl Crow was terrible. It was not even her who was that bad; it was JAGGER who looked idiotic IMO. he doesn't need guests.
I liked Izzy up there; I dug seeing him more than hearing Axl. Again for the same reason. They start trying to sing all perfect. Then they always have to fall into each other's arms, all breathless from the stellar timeless performance, blah blah..
The real deal: Stones in 81 with Muddy. EC in 89, AC/DC boys in 02.
Mick Taylor in 81. Stevie Wonder in 72.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

2003 Charles. That's when SarsStock was. smiling smiley

Best guests imo: The Young brothers on Rock Me Baby and Izzy from '89! Good to see him there.

Worst guests imo: Dave Matthews (author of the best-selling novel "How To Butcher A Stones Tune While Being A Guest At One Of Their Gigs") grinning smiley
