yeah I gues I was thinking about the Kilburn gig. It's not fair; you guys have a library of pics and albums and refernces at your fingertip[s. I am usually driving in a van while I am corresponding here. Lubes the ole memory banks.
Keith looks cool but Ronnie looks...slicker. Cleaner, I guess would be a better word. Keith always looked so deliciously dirty back then. LOL
Thos white pants...hmmmaren't those the same as the ones from the Pay Pack Follow cover shots? What I like about the footage from the Faces gig is how serious Keith seems to be taking the "sit-in" status that he is in. He doesn't clown around and is very intent on playing that guitar. "Look Miss Rod this is how the big boys do it over in the Stones.."
NP "Rabbit Fighter" - T Rex. What a cool tune.

>> yeah I gues I was thinking about the Kilburn gig. <<

uhh ... Keith's got the same guitar at the Kilburn gigs, Chelsea -
the dark pretty LP Junior that got stolen in 78, and Keith replaced it with the TV-yellow model that he plays to this day.
which must be why you're thinking yellow - it all falls into place, see? :E

Bayou - Ronnie didn't "jump" at 1st asking when Jagger inquired about him
joining...

It took Ronnie awhile to make the decision to leave & break-up the Faces.

That's why Perkins, Jeff Beck and the others got a try-out, recorded stuff
for Black & Blue and so on.

Keith did give Wayne Perkins the impression he was "in"
that was probably the "push" Ronnie needed to quit the Faces as his "golden"
opportunity was about to be lost to Perkins if he didn't show up at the
Stones rehearsals and claim the job..

No cc, I really think pretty highly of Slash. That was sort of my point, that I think his style changed. I can not speak for what he is doing with his band Velvet revolver because I don't listen to them. But on Illusion I thoght he was really good. Coupled with someone like Izzy or Ron Wood it makes him play pretty good, I think.

I just saw a couple videos from Live 8 and Slash looked pretty good... he was working some good licks, nothing memorable but seemed healthy...

I don't get that Velvet Revolver lead singer though... he looks like he just left a bellhop job at a Holiday Inn...

Didn't hear all that much on the Velvet Revolver cd that was that interesting, though... time will tell how long this group stays together BUT it should be possible to stick Slash in a band where he does some good, IMO.

Back to this thread... wasn't Slash about 2 years old when Taylor was replaced ?

There is no doubt that Ronnie Wood has the look of a Rolling Stone. He looks great.......he's aged very well considering his drink and drug habit. The guitar playing is another matter. Clapton and Keith.......now you're talking.

I still think that if the only thing Keith and Ronnie ever did was the Forty Licks Tour, you'd still have some of the best guitar-duo work by any 2 guys ever... they hit their peak on 40 Licks, imo.

... wouldn't it be cool to sort out who the Stones really considered, as opposed to names that journalists and so on were throwing around (sometimes mighty wildly)?
really, who besides Jeff Beck and the cats who appear on Black & Blue did the Stones consider even semi-seriously?

it surprised me too, but i thought it was a really fine assertion.
when the Stones are playing, someone is resonating.

and Chippy, thanks for that short list of guitarist candidates ... i wonder about a couple of those names too,
but it sounds more reasonable than some of the names flying around.

Yes LOL I heard that one too Rockman. Nils I guess just had to settle for No2 all the way through. he does his faux-Keith slinks behind the Boss now.

The Faces concert named as "The Final Concert" was not their final concert at all. Why was it named that? On the final Faces-shows Jesse Ed Davies (from Taj Mahal) played second guitar. "The Final Concert" is from 1974, the real final shows were in 1975.

Where and when did Jesse Ed Davis make his mark? You know how there are like some people out there who somehow have a rep but you personally have never ever seen them do anyhting worth while? JED is one of those guys with me. Every time I see him play with someone I am like So? Ho hum.." He had to create his niche sometime.

The Black and Blue album has three lead players on it, Ron is one, Harvey and Wayne the others. Ron Wood had recorded with the Stones and was always kind of friendly with them. Ron Wood originally recorded It's Only Rock n Roll. The acoustic on the final track is credited to him. Keith redid his electric parts. Does anyone know if it's actually Ron's original parts that you hear in the video version of that song (the one with the bubbles)? If it is, I'm glad Keith redid the parts.

In the biography 'It's All Too Beautiful' about Steve Marriott of the SMall Faces, then Humble Pie, went to audition on Keith's recommendation, but was rejected because he looked like upstaging Jagger.

Jesse Ed Davis played with Taj Majal on 'The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus' and later on Rod Stewart's first couple of solo albums after the Faces break-up.
I heard that he died a few years ago.

that Dec 1974 show wasnt the last Faces gig

Ronnie toured with them in the US in 1975 both before and after the Stones tour

The Faces final US tour actually started about a week after the Stones one finished

I heard that ALL of Ronnies parts were wiped off and redone by Keith(David Bowie's backup vocals also). Ron really got screwed on not getting a writing credit also.

According to liner notes on a Roy Buchanan CD, he was asked to join the Stones but declined. I never heard that rumour back in 1974!!

yes gazza, I was thinking about that gig being the "last" something and it is not last gig, but it was because they play some single in the video that was their last single. Whenever I watch that video I always equate it with something "last".
