It seems all of the opening songs have fit the bill........my only real problem was with Not Fade Away in 94. The show didn't really seem to get cranked until they followed it with Tubling Dice. The 94 TD was favorite version.
1969- JJ Flash 1972- Brown Sugar 1975-Honky Tonk Women 1978 -Let It Rock 1981-Under My Thumb 1989-Start Me Up 1994- Not Fade Away 1997= Satisfaction 1999- JJ Flash 2002-Brown Sugar or Street Fighting Man 2005-Start Me Up
Street Fighting Man on the Licks Tour was god-damn-ass-kicking. The hardest rocking versions ever. I still love watching the HBO show when they opened with SFM. JJF in 69 and 99 was also great, not to speak of the 02/03 club shows. I would have prefered HTW for the ABB tour, directly followed by Shattered or She's So Cold, then Rough Justice, then Paint It Black.
Start Me Up Rules. There is no question in my mind. I have heard it a million times, and wasn't a huge fan when it first came out, but I gotta admit that it just works. It's all in the riff that is known by everyone who has ever owned a radio. That's why JJF and Brown Sugar work as well.
start me up is a great opener, but a bit too easy nowadays. I would have liked this tour to kick off with Rough Justice. Around and Around is another great possibility.
Around and Around is a GREAT suggestion! Start Me Up is great as an opener, but if not played in the opening slot, I'd prefer not to hear it all, but I know they won't do that. It has become an obligatory warhorse.
It should be something upbeat and fast and something most everyone knows. How about Respectable? IORR? How about this one for the right wing reactionaries to piss about, Star***ker?! One last suggestion, although it has been played a lot lately, and not necessarily well, a new, fresh intro could make Sympathy a great opener!
I'm in the minority here, but I love Not Fade Away as an opener... not saying it's the best opener, but it opens slow and within a minute just "captures" you... especially the way the stones arrange it...
Why the &^%$#@ they don't play this song more often I'll never understand because they have it down cold.
