Johnny Winter And was truly one of the greatest power quartets in history, sort of "Derek and the Dominoes on speed"...

...they pumped out some great music. For scorching blues rock they didn't take a back seat to anybody. I can remember when their albums came out, weren't any like them.

All of the Stones albums have overdubs on them. Its kinda the norm now for many acts, but wasnt always

Its too Late To Stop Now by Van Morrison is one particularly good one I can think of that wasnt. I'd imagine most of Neil Young's are 'undoctored' as well.

I was kind of wondering if anyone was going to acknowledge CSNY. Certainly when in their acoustic mode, they are an amazing quartet. (Electric is mighty, but not a foursome.)

Can't for the life of me figure out why there was so much resistance to "Greendale." So bluesy, such great Jimmy Reed-style grooves all over that disc. And "Falling From Above?" "Carmichael?" "Sun Green?" "Bandit?" Some of his best things ever. Listen to the nasty harp playing and the boogie on "Sun Green"--what a rush. "Bandit" is as gorgeous an acoustic ballad as he has ever done; it smokes anything on "Harvest."

I saw three "Greendale" shows. I was wary at first, but wound up enjoying the album material way more than the (very hot) "retro" sets at the end.

He's a man who is willing to push his audience and show them something new. In Hershey, PA, I sat next to four college kids who knew every single word to the "Greendale" record. That was inspiring.

Hey Andy, there were only 3 Stooges so they don't count as a quartet!

Replacing Curly with Shemp is comparable with replacing Mick Jagger with Wayne Newton. Just not a good fit IMHO!

There were 2 main problems, not so much with the CD as with the tour:

1) It wasn't a conventional tour... it was more like "The Greendale Stage Play" with all those actors and that faux house set up... with Grandma and Grampa rocking on the front porch and the little girl running around...

The average Neil Young fan wasn't there to see a Stage Play... it was cool for the first 4 songs or so ...

2) Then the HORROR when you realized that THIS IS THE SHOW... 2/3 of the show at least is this stage play...

Then you get maybe 3 Crazy Horse songs... what you really came for in the first place.

It would be like going to a Stones show and getting the ENTIRE ABB album before you got the first "classic" stones song.

The only more disappointing gig I ever attended was that disastrous Who "Quadrophenia" tour... you keep thinking and hoping, when are they gonna play something besides this junk... but you got like 2 non-Quadro songs.

I guess it just depends on your perspective. If you are a diehard fan who has seen a band many times, you probably want to see a show with new or rare material.

I've seen the Stones six times and am not sure if I will see them again on this tour because they aren't playing enough new or rare stuff. If they announced tomorrow a series of shows where they would play the entire ABB album before getting to the classic material, I would hock all my possessions and get tickets for 5-6 shows at least. That would be a dream, unlike the boring setlists we are getting now.

The same with The Who from my perspective. I have seen them several times and was glad to see at least one tour where they didn't play the same hits over and over (great as those hits may be). But I can understand that if someone is seeing a band for the first time they usually want the hits, which is why you were disappointed with the Who in '97 when they were playing Quadrophenia.

If I went to see Neil Young and he just played Greendale I'd be disappointed, because I've never seen him and want to hear the "classic" songs the first time. But I'm sure a diehard Neil fan who has seen him a bunch of times was thrilled to get new material. That's why I don't buy a ticket to a major band these days without checking out the reviews online first. I want to have an idea what they're playing in advance in case it's not what I want to hear!

Hold on a second, you went to see a Who show that was clearly advertised as a presentation of the album "Quadrophenia" (an album you admit to hating) and then express surprise and disappointment that they played the whole album?

Why on earth did you buy a ticket?

Its a concept album. If you present it as a story, you'd hardly expect them to play only 3 or 4 songs from it?

if you went to see 'Hamlet', would you expect to see just a couple of acts from it, followed by a soliloquoy from 'Macbeth' ?

Not sure what I was thinking... something along the lines of "emphasis on Quadro with a good smattering of the classics..." ... could have handled that...

Like Neil's Greendale tour... he's got "Greendale" up there prominently on the poster, but you expect plenty of classics to go along with it.

Alot of bands tour behind the name of a particular album but it's not 100% songs from that CD...

It's pretty funny that almost no one mentions U2. (I did say 'almost')
And I can not BELIEVE I did not mention the Clash earlier. Forgive me, Joe S.

Don't worry Chelsea, I'm not a big Nickleback fan. Hell, I only really like one song. I just threw it out there cause they are a quartet. As for Creed, that's funny! I hated Creed! Thankfully, they broke up! Now their former lead singer has decided to go solo! Arrgh indeed!
