Too Tough or Too Tight

What do you prefer? Tune off Undercover or bridges.

Too Tough is preferable by a margin. Too Tough is 289th best & Too tight is 327th on my all time rating of Stones songs.

Did You ever compile your ultimate rating/ ranking lists of their entire catalogue. Good luck. Takes a long time but pleasurable, as you must listen & relisten & relisten again & again & again to many songs.

The MEZ challenge. Drop me a line in 6-8 months if ever do give it a try. Go ahead I dare you. Your own lists will suprise you, when all said & done, I promise that! Only if you love them enough to hear constantly for a long time James

Too Tough.

I'm a huge fan of Undercover. It's one of my top three or four Stones albums.

Too Tight. If only for the line "I've seen it all a thousand times, I sung that song I wrote that f***in' book." I love that line...it says it all.

Too Tough. It's not a great song, but it fits in with the aggressive vibe of Undercover. Too Tight is tuneful but an obvious by-the-numbers piece.

MEZ, do you have your list in a word file? I'd like to give it a gander.

Whomever likes 'Too Tough', listen to an outtake titled 'Cellophane Trouser'. I can't upload it, but maybe someone else can. It's an instrumental from the 70s.

I like "Too Tough" as well, but it was a failed single. I guess people got tired of the repetitive D to C chord structure.

Yeah, me too. It's a great, underrated album. Could have done with I Think I'm Going Mad on it though. It would have been a nice counterpoint to the blood-soaked, brooding dance mayhem of the album. Actually, that crappy Rarities album could have done with I Think I'm Going Mad On It too.

Side note:

From the mid '80's to the mid '90's there was a biker bar band that played in Portland, Oregon called The Batz. These guys were a lot of fun but in no way a big deal, just a very humble rock band made up of guys in their 40's that would play Wednesday nights at low end taverns.

They played virtually the same classic rock set every time I saw them: A couple of originals, Magic Carpet Ride, Johnny B. Good, etc. Brand New Cadillac was as "alternative" as they ever got. One major surprise: Too Tough!

I am not at all sure they played Too Tough every time they played out but they sure did every time me and my buddies caught their show. We would get beered up and yell Too Tough! The singer would then say, "Hey, the tough guys are here" and then play it. I grew to prefer their version to the Stones because the guitar player, Paul Woodsong, would generally let rip a smokin' solo for our benefit.

We questioned them at length on how they picked this very obscure track out of all Stones songs to cover. They couldn't remember (I believed them, their was some brain-cell depletion evident here).

By the way, I am an Undecover fan too. What do you suppose the band has against She Was Hot? I always felt this song would come to life on the stage.
