It has to be Oasis' time, surely? Not that they'd be arsed about it, anyway!

Why are Joy Division and New Order lumped together? They did this with the Small Faces and Faces, too!

The White Stripes, cool.

Obviously, the Black Crowes deserve being inducted, also Chubby Checker, Billy Idol and Joe Cocker.
Oasis' promo tour can't be the reason to induct them. Years to wait for that ...

It's practically shocking that Chubby Checker isn't already inducted given this impact for a couple of years with the Twist and Let's Twist Again.

On that list, the only "superstars" I think are probably Oasis, again very surprising they're not already in (not that I'm a fan of them, but still).

My favourites on the list are New Order and Joy Division, Black Crowes, Billy Idol and White Stripes.

How often are these nominees announced? Because it feels like it's every few months. Time flies when you get older but there's no way this is announced once a year.

Nominees are announced annually and the inductees are announced a couple of months later.

Oh, Mariah Carey certainly has to be automatic. The second greatest rock and roll act in history...

Seriously, what they hell is she doing on this list? No rock. No roll.

On the other hand, Chubby Checker should really be automatic. The Twist had a lot of influence going forward.

I think that when Joe Cocker died most people assumed he was already in the HoF.

Yeah, I assumed he was in. Are Deep Purple finally there? Surely, all the ‘biggies’ from the 60’s and 70’s - sales-wise - are now in?

I like the White Stripes a fair bit, circa 2002, but wouldn’t listen to them, today. If they’ve been nominated, then why not the Strokes? They were far bigger and more influential. ‘Is This It?’ was the album of 2001.

Oasis have been eligible for 5 years. They are 100% going in only because of their reunion, which shows you how fake and transparent the Hall is.

This shows how much my expectations have gone down that I actually think this is their best list in years. At least its rock which many haven't been. To me I'd do:

Oasis
Bad Company
Joe Cocker
Phish
Soundgarden
The White Stripes

I'd say The White Stripes, Oasis, and Phish (regardless of if you like em or not) belong in for longevity, sales, influence, etc. The others would just be preferences. I'd obviously understand Chubby Checker for The Twist alone, but I tried to go with career artists.

Still insane that people like Iron Maiden, Jethro Tull, Harry Nilsson and many others aren't even considered. So dumb.

I do love Joe Cocker but I saw him as more of an interpreter than a truly visionary artist like the Stones and such. I know, its a qualifier, but in a true great Hall he probably wouldn't make it for me even though I love him. He should absolutely be in with what's in there now.

Personally, I wouldn't put a band like The Strokes in. The White Stripes made a much bigger impact. Seven Nation Army is played every day on the radio and sports game. Whether people are a fan or not, The White Stripes are one of the last recognizable names around the world I'd say.

How Chubby Checker (and Joe Cocker) isn't already in the RARHOF is absurd.

Mariah Carey once again grounds the ridiculousness of the RARHOF.

I'm completely in agreement with GasLightStreet. Couldn't have said it better. But somehow I think Mariah will be in before The Black Crowes, she's more Rock And Rollwinking smiley

Preaching to the choir my friend!

I also lament no Paul Revere & the Raiders and Herman's Hermits. I credit these two groups with the television era of rock bands.

I agree with these three, noted above.

Chubby Checker, Bad Company, and Joe Cocker

Glad to see a lot of these folks nominated. My picks would be The White Stripes, Chubby Checker, and Joe Cocker, though I'm guessing Oasis will get the nod.

At this point you can almost see the New York Dolls getting in immediately with a David Johansen death. Which is hopefully far away, and completely morbid, but the amount of times they finally induct people once no one is there to accept the honor is all too common. Wayne Kramer sat there year after year getting passed over for induction with the MC5 and suddenly he is inducted when he can't give a speech. To me, that's the worst element of the Hall more than them branching out to other genres. The disrespect then faux respect once they've passed. Its supposed to be a place that honors truly innovators and originators, but that's not sexy when they're alive apparently. The amount of inductions post death is akin to "thoughts and prayers" after a tragedy. It rings incredibly hollow and is more disrespectful than just continuing to not honor them. At least that would show some integrity.

Outside of Bad Company, The Black Crowes and Joe Cocker, can any of these folks be considered rock'n'roll? Chubby Checker had one monster hit but I'd never call it rock'n'roll. As for the rest...hmmm? Ain't no way, Jack.

In my opinion if the television era of rock bands mattered to them, the Monkees would be considered, but that's never going to happen.

You don't think the White Stripes qualify as rock?

Rock and Roll and dance go hand in hand. There is not one person from 2 to 92 that has never done The Twist. I believe it’s also the only song to reach number 1 on the Billboard charts 2 separate times. He also had hits with Lets Twist Again and The Limbo Rock.

Chubby Checker is a fake. He stole his act from Hank Ballard, who wrote The Twist. And his name is a rip off of Fats Domino.
