History, Doxa. Surely even blu-ray is for the connoisseur, only. I’ll stream this release.

Artwork with citymap looks like this shirt

'Shepherds Bush Common'? I live in the area, and have never once heard it referred to as that. It's colloquially known as 'Shepherds Bush Green'

Wise point. My own grandparents lived nearby and my grandfather had a stall in the local market.

As far as I can tell the artwork is a reproduction of the 'A-Z' street directory - so anyone with a hard copy of that could check this out. (I no longer have one.)

just looked in my A-Z, and it does indeed show it as 'Shepherd's Bush Comn'

i lived in shepherd's bush for 10 years

and absolutely no one called it that

though it was common land way back when - used for sheep grazing

hence the neme of the area

Thanks Irix!
Great news. I had to refresh my memory here.
A great concert with a lovely setlist and the Stones were very relaxed.
I remember sitting right behind Mick's brother Chris.
I spoke to him earlier in the hotel where we had to pick up the tickets. There I also briefly met with Bob Geldof and his (meanwhile late) young daughter.
I also remember Mick adding a line at the end of "Melody" to keep in line with the music: "in the microwave" (roast that child alive) grinning smiley
We were made aware of the presence of many crème-de-la-crème of the rock'n'roll scene like members of the Who, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, John Bon Jovi, Dave Steward, Geldof, etc., etc.
I have to admit that I only noticed a few, because I was there to enjoy the Stones of course cool smiley
A not so nice memory was seeing Anita P. at the end of the show standing at the stairs. Here appearance really shocked me.
Once outside an Englishman wanted to desparately buy my (white) plastic bag (I had bought an event T-shirt). I clearly didn't want to obviously, but his bidding went up to 8 (!) Pounds, so I gave up cool smiley and carried my T-shirt under my arm.
Great memories!

This is maybe my favorite late Stones-show. Lucky guy!

Why was seeing Anita P. a shocking moment for you? The fact she was there? Her look? Her age?

Looking forward for the first Stones 4K release. Alle these other (SD) BR releases look like shit on my 4K OLED.

Great setlist too. I don't really care for those regular tour-shows like Live Licks in NY or Bridges to Bremen anymore. Shows like this, The Wiltern, Mocambo, Paradiso and hopefully something like Circus Krone or Vredenburg Utrecht in the future..

Vinyl + 4K BR for me!

Shepherd's Bush Market is still very much going, CaptainCorella. The centre of Shepherd's Bush has thus far, generally, managed to escape the gentrification that has engulfed some other parts of London: Brixton, Peckham; parts of East London, etc. The Pie and Mash shop has gone, though.

Looking forward for the first Stones 4K release.

First Stones 4K release was the 2019 restoration of 'Rock and Roll Circus', available in 4K-UHD on Prime Video - [Amazon.com] - as well as on [TV.Apple.com] .

Can't wait to see some of this footage in a first promo clip! Let's hope they saw it as important as El Mocambo and invested in a good mix!

Ah ok, the retail version only has standard 1080p bluray. Which is still al lot better than those Vault releases.

1999 was in the midst of Ronnie's alcoholism battle, of course. I saw him at the same venue two years' later, and he still hadn't recovered.

edit: actually, there was no 'battle' at this point; he was fully embracing the booze.

I think it was just before the Licks Tour, that Mick first instructed he attend rehab.

Personally I don't think we should fear a lot of mistakes. Certainly they did some over dubbing. I'm more concerned about the dynamics, hoping it's listenable. If so, I'm going to be a very happy guy.

I don't think they did new overdubs to any of the Vault releases. On some they used overdubs already available from the vault (Hampton and El Mocambo come to my mind).

On the other hand they left very big @#$%& ups in the vault releases. Just look at Respectable/When the whip comes down incident from Buenos Aires.

There are tons of overdubs on Havana Moon (Out of control and Keith's disastrous original solo...).

I'm talking about Vault releases. Havanna was a current major live release. But even there I don't think they did overdubs but they edited/pitch corrected that part. But there are not completely new tracks played in the studio like they did for many live albums and for video albums like Austin, Copacabana and Shine a Light.

Yes, I agree. Keith was still in fine form in 1999, and despite Ronnie’s drinking, I think the issue was more to do with underperforming, rather than a catalogue of bum-notes and errors. My understanding it was more of a case of he being ‘missing in action’ too often. I haven’t listened to much - other than the official releases - from this era, so perhaps someone here, more educated, could talk a little more specifically in regard to Ronnie’s performances from 1997-‘99.

Well, for example, he was totally inconsistent and absent from the mix at the Stade de France in Paris in 1998...

do we really think there gonna go through the trouble at this point of personally recording new tracks to overdub over a show that's only gonna sell at best a couple thousand copies to a handful of hardcore fans like us?

I must say that in the years later on I saw better (decent) images of her, but when I left the hall and turned to the stairways, she was standing there (with a black guy to her left next to her) and I just happened to look straight into her eyes for no reason at all.
It was like looking into an emptiness so dark that it felt like facing a ghost, resulting in a brief shiver. Obviously I turned away right away.
The concert and all nice things around it soon made me forget it that night though.

Haven't listened to the show in a while, but I remember it as being quite a lame show, just lacking in energy. And indeed let's hope the dynamics of the mix won't spoil it. I find just about all 'modern' live releases like No Security San Jose unlistenable due to the overly compressed sound and thumping bass.
