I have not missed a show so far so I will give my take on this.

I don't remember which show it was, but I remember Mick spitting on the stage and grabbing the water bottle more frequently than normal.

My guess is the changes were made due to a voice issue. They dropped Cloud for IORR which has more input from the backup singers and the same for LSTNT.

Three Keith songs follow the same thing as the last arena show in Vegas when Mick was sick. We got three songs.

Dropping Heaven is probably along the same lines. I think if Chanel was overpowering, and Mick didn't like it there would be a conversation to tone it down and not just drop the song.

None of us will probably ever know the real reason unless they come out and tell us, but these are rational speculations.

Let's be Happy that the tour is still going on. They'll have a break coming up and we'll know more after the break.

i noticed him spitting on stage at jazz fest and i've seen him do it at every show since

Bam: Im with you 1OO% Best album in decades. Im heading to Chicago #2. I am praying to hear Sweet Sounds.

Gaslight: Oh geez, that's a super tough one. I think I'll have to drop Rambler to hear Sweet Sounds. I've seen them do that 2Ox ... but have yet to hear the Sweet Sound of Heaven.

Mick's voice sounded impeccable in Cleveland. Outrageously great!! Im glad we got Whole Wide World; Mess It up seems a bit wobbly in the vocals. Pitchy. I think they ought to try Bite My Head Off and Sword. Why not!? Lay it on us. Give us it.

Keith needs to sing two songs max.

Thanks for reading.
Cheers!

I agree completely. At first this song was not getting the best crowd reaction.

They guitars really shine on this song. It has a feel of an older Stones song.

Keith's singing 3 songs to give Mick a rest. Micks obviously struggling at 80 years of age, it's understandable, I'm sure Keith would rather just sing 2 songs.

For me Rambler over SSOH it's the highlight of every show.

Despite it being (temporarily?)benched for whatever reason, I'd still give SSOH the best new live song. Love the guitars on WWW, the vintage feel, and it is fantastic live, but SSOH is an overall better song imo, live or recorded.

Not mentioned much except when first released but the fact that SSOH includes (or is?) a tribute to Charlie also tips the scale for me. Love the gospel feel about it and Chanel's powerful vocals during the back and forth with Mick. Looking forward to it's return to the setlist, just fantastic live.

"Jagger opens the track, paying tribute to the late Charlie Watts with lyrics like, “Bless the Father, bless the Son, hear the sound of the drums/ As it echoes through the valley and it bursts.”

I love both WWW and Mess It Up. Like new fresh blood. Mick talking his way through Heartbreaker - not so much. "Ok, let´s finish this one as soon as possible..."

Singing at 80 can't be easy. I saw Roger Daltry on Friday night and his voice was great (not 1970s great, but still good). The show pacing had a break and chatter between every song, had Simon Townsend singing Going Mobile (quite well) and when it came to having to scream at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again, Roger warned in advance that the scream would damage his voice all the way back in the 70s, leaving it dicey on whether he could recover in 24 hours for the next gig, and at 80 he would be relying on the crowd to handle that part of the song. Having Keith do 3 songs, and limiting how far Mick's voice has to range in a show seems like a reasonable accommodation to make.

Mick talking his way through Heartbreaker is not really a new thing. Last time he hit the right notes in the chorus must have been in 2003.

The Rolling Stones Show How to Age Wonderfully Ungracefully at Cleveland Browns Stadium Show

The iconic band played Cleveland for the first time in two decades and put on a show to remember

By Eric Heisig
Jun 16, 2024

Midway through The Rolling Stones’ concert Saturday night at Cleveland Browns Stadium, frontman Mick Jagger referenced the band’s first full show in the Forest City six decades ago.

“It was pretty empty but it was still rowdy,” Jagger said of the 1964 Public Auditorium show.

The comment was no doubt a throwaway line meant to amp up a capacity crowd at one of the biggest shows the city will host this year. Still, it highlighted that the British rock ’n’ roll band has put out music and toured for 60-plus years. How many groups can claim that?

That longevity, as well as a killer songbook with numerous hits, are the reasons the Stones still fill stadiums. And even though principals Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards are now north of 80 years old (decades past the age required to join AARP, which sponsors the band's current jaunt) and guitarist Ronnie Wood is in his late 70s, the members and their eight backing musicians put on a lean, muscular show that had them sounding as good as ever.

Jagger in particular is a human specimen that science must struggle to explain. He may not sprint across stages anymore, but he was still in constant motion during Saturday’s 19-song, nearly two-hour performance, frequently making use of the massive stage and catwalk. As for Richards and Wood, their guitar “weaving” gave the show a spontaneity that many bands of the Stones’ stature lack.

Like so many of the band’s tours in the back half of their career, most of the focus was on a core set of their best-known songs. Opening the show with rocker “Start Me Up” and closing with the sneering “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” the show was heavy on the hits and light on the deeper cuts that make their catalog so rich.

The concert was the Stones’ first since a 2002 show at Gund Arena. They were set to perform at the football stadium in 2020 but cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since then, the band lost the steady backbeat of original drummer Charlie Watts in 2021 and replaced him with longtime Richards associate Steve Jordan.

Jordan lacks some of the finesse of his predecessor but his pounding drums (which he seemingly played with his entire body) kept the show moving at a brisk pace. They powered a show light on frills (no geysers of flames during “Sympathy for the Devil,” for example) but heavy on expert instrumental interplay, like the work Jordan did with bassist Darryl Jones on a groove-heavy “Miss You.”

New album Hackney Diamonds, the band’s first in seven years, was represented with a handful of cuts that, well, sound like the Stones. While the band can be lauded for still putting out new material, none of the songs, save for perhaps “Angry,” made much of an impression. They likely won’t make lists of the band’s best tunes.

Another (possibly evergreen) gripe: diehards like this reviewer will always long for some deeper cuts. While it’s thrilling to hear “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Honky Tonk Women” played live, some of the most special moments were when the band busted out rarer songs like “Monkey Man” and the fan-voted “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker).”

At this stage in their career, that may be asking a lot. And hey, if they’re not going to mix it up, it’s best to focus on what makes each night’s show different: Richards and Wood’s guitar interplay.

Both improvise heavily live, which can lead to the occasional flubbed note and sloppy solo. But when they’re on, their bluesy lick-trading capabilities are unmatched, like on highlights “Tumbling Dice” and the Richards-fronted “Happy."

Given that the band’s last show in Cleveland was more than 20 years ago, it’s anybody’s guess whether, given the members’ ages, they’ll play here again. If Saturday’s show is the last time the band sets foot here, it can do so knowing that they gave a performance as strong as any by bands half their age.

What a great show!! I wrote a brief report the night of the show and was a bit tired with a looming 11 hour drive home the next day so didn’t get too detailed, but I just read the other reports and y’all mentioned everything I didn’t! Thanks for those detailed reports, especially mentioning the horns which were fantastic.

Cleveland was supposed to be it for me but now I’m gonna have to add a show, I miss them already

My plan was NJ 1 and Philadelphia. I simply had to add NJ 2. Wish I could do more. It seems it's never enough.

How many shows did Keith do one song? 3 or 4? Perhaps he's just catching up so that he gets 2 songs/show for the whole tour. Wouldn't be surprised if that's writtin in the contracts.
That would be bizarre but if true he is back to 2 in denver.

There is no such "contract" that Keith does so many songs. It's just something they agree upon and talk about in rehearsals, or when Chuck & Mick are making up the setlist. 90% of the people in the audience would prefer it if Keith would do only one song, "Happy".

Oh?

You know that for a fact?

There's probably - and possibly - a good (read that - not most, just good) amount of people attending shows that would love to hear Happy but would also like to hear:

Before They Make Me Run
Little T&A
Thief In The Night
Coming Down Again
Sleep Tonight
Too Rude

Maybe there are some in attendance that are HOT ROCKS + MADE IN THE SHADE people.

Apparently the audiences are mostly made up of HOT ROCKS + REWIND people.

Which allows room (if you're paying attention to the words used) that some are there for HOT ROCKS + REWIND + HACKNEY DIAMONDS.

The Rolling Stones aren't directly responsible for that - they do what they do, they did what they did, and they had zero to do with HOT ROCKS.

Yet they're aware of it.

Unfortunately they're getting to a point of basically ignoring HACKNEY DIAMONDS much like they did with A BIGGER BANG: scared to challenge the audience.

Uh, hello, Bob Dylan.

The Stones (Mick) need to get over themselves and just DO.

Like Bob Dylan.

because i've seen him do it regularly since the second show of this tour

On the subject of Micks voice issues, it could be stress related, he seems so focused on it and clearly protects it from what we can see, i don't know, because he's cancelled shows in the past with pharyngitis its on his mind perhaps, and the mind is a funny thing.
You can actually strain your voice singing in a way that appears to be protecting it, singing in a artificial manner, holding back, could be counter productive. I wish Mick would just go for it like he did in 2022, physically too, he just went for it during the European shows, wasn't all this pacing himself. With an average of over 4 days between shows he has recovery time.

Getting in and making it to Pit B was a disaster. After ticket scan, nobody knew where to go for wristbands. We were eventually sent to the wrong place and lost another 20 minutes there, then were redirected upstairs to fight a massive crowd for another 30-40 minutes. All in all, more than an hour from entry to making it to Pit B.

Show, however, was excellent. See y'all in Chicago and Ridgedale.

Seriously, Treacle a well thought out and well communicated explanation. I think Chicago Show #1 is key. It comes after a full week off. If Keith's 3 song set and the absence of Sweet Sounds remain at Chicago 1, then I say that is how the tour will finish out. I do find the one song encode as a bit odd.
