Best Show From Each Tour?

Has anyone ever compiled a list or rated the shows from each tour?

Marshall, great question and yes, I myself about 20 years ago was putting together a bootleg collection and I wanted the top 2 shows from each tour. Get ready for a LOT of answers and opinions! I think my favorite reply was the fan who swore Milwaukee 78 was the best Stones show ever. I think most of the conversations and such you are looking for would be on the live recording page not the Tell Me page.

Great List SoulSurvivor! I'd add Chicago 9/23/97 still my favorite show past 1975. But make sure you find the full show. Many exclude Ruby Tuesday and Rock and a Hard Place. Glad to see 10/31/94 Oakland made your list. I always liked that one from the Voodoo tour.

Bootlegs, I’m only 34. But also based on the reviews, hours of listening, and a general aggregate from having perused this forum for years.

Zurich 2017, are you serious? I attended this concert. My worst show since 1976.

The 2017 tour as a whole was underwhelming. Zurich being the best isn't saying much, but it's the most well played show and probably the best set list of the tour. Keith did his best playing of the tour at that show.

IMO, there were way better shows in 2017 at the end of the tour. Out of the 11 shows I saw that tour (including Zurich), Arnhem and Paris II were easily the best ones. Energywise these shows were on another level compared to Zurich and I also think that Keith was way better at the end of the tour. Zurich is certainly one of the better shows of the first half and Keith didn't do any major mistakes at that show, I give you that.

I only saw Lucca and Paris II. Lucca was fun, but not one of their best. Agree that Paris II was a great show, and not only compared to the rest of the tour. Was it on Street Fighting Man that Jagger was bashing the cymbals with Charlie?

Insane!

I must admit I was swayed by the fact that Zurich is available in great sound quality whereas those others aren't, making it easier to gauge performance level and musicianship, both of which I feel were on point for that show and that tour. 2017 is probably the worst Keith year post-2007, and on both tours I'll admit he pulled it together at the end (though he still committed some egregious snafus even towards the end).

The fact that these are the most known or most widely bootlegged shows doesn't mean they are the best...

1972: The Philly shows are great and with good sound, but they are fairly late in the tour when drugs and fatigue were taking over. The shows in the middle of the tour where far and far better: Mobile, Akron, Washington, Charlotte.

1975: LA were great shows, but really drugged out. They seemed to wind down a bit at the end of the tour, and these shows are absolute stunners: Jacksonville, Louisville, Hampton, Buffalo.

1978: The Texas shows were, like 1972, really the worst shows of the tour. Good shows, but really lacking in energy. Passaic, Memphis, Lexington, Detroit: far better shows.

1981: only one contender here: Hampton Roads, 12/18.

1982: My personal favorite is Gothenburg, June 19. The Waldbuhne, Berlin, is fabulous too.

2022: Berlin over Brussels for sure. Brussels was great too.

For a tour of 14 shows it's possible to do this. But how are you going to choose between all the great gigs in 97 or 02. Not possible.

Many shows were better than Paris! But, the sound of the soundboard doesn't help. If you listen to the audience recordings of the shows they appear much better.

Great setlist and great company too. For a start they opened with Sympathy - not sure if they ever did that before or after. Then we got Out Of Control, Just Your Fool and Ride 'Em On Down, Play With Fire, Under My Thumb and this gem -

Hamburg 1965 was a fun show. Mick was slightly drunk smiling smiley

Yes, they opened with Sympathy for most of that 2017 tour - they swapped it around for the 3 Paris shows.
They also started 2018 tour with Sympathy in Dublin (I was there so remembered that) but dropped it after that as Mick said "it was too light for Sympathy at 9.00pm" on that early summer tour.
2017 was in the autumn of course, so darker for the outdoor shows.

2016 I would say Chile. Not because I was there, but hearing the bootlegs and official footage, they played with a lot more energy than the rest of the tour, specially compared with Cuba.

I was thinking Chili as well. Sasha’s first, excellent quality bootleg, and the band is still playing with the energy they had on Zip Code. 2/10 and 2/24 are also contenders.

Always thought this was the tour where their age suddenly caught up on them.
