There's a Lazio game at the Olimpico on 25th May, I don't think the stadium groundsmen would be happy with a concert before the end of the season...

Maybe it's Circo Massimo?

Wouldn't it be cool if they ended their European tour career in the Rome Colosseum? Because they wanted to perform there for the Rock & Roll Circus and they are almost as old as the Romans.

Maybe like Billy Joel in front of it? Looked really cool. Might be a cool last gig. But I hope they will have a really special (and big?) one to finish off (the tour).

At last! U.S.A., Canada, etc, have had a visa-waiver scheme for years. Unless you have a criminal record, you have nothing to be concerned about winking smiley

There's not much space in front of the Colosseum. I know they say that 500.000 people were at the shows. But you have to wonder how many of them acctually saw the Colosseum let alone Billy Joel…

beside that: if they ever intened to do a final show it has to be London

The "last" show won't be planned and billed as such. It will just happen. See Miami 2019 for Charlie.

remember why the Stones weren't allowed to do shows in Japan until the late 80s?

After the show at The Colosseum, would Keith or Mick be the one who gives the thumbs up or down on the sound engineers’ fate?

I do. That’s Japan, however. I’ve never been, but it’s a nation where many countries require visa entry. The Stones would’ve required a permit to ‘work’ there. The new U.K. system is a ‘visa waiver scheme’ The EU, itself, is introducing one this very year. If you’re a British passport-holder, and wish to see the Stones in Italy, you’ll have to apply for the waiver.

Not quite right there....

The Rock & Roll Circus was filmed in mid-December 1968. I've never ever heard suggestions that conflate that with the Colosseum story. It was done and dusted long before the Colosseum rumour started.

The rumours about a planned Colosseum show were around in (about) June 1969. (Aside: It would be handy to find an archive of Melody Maker, or New Musical Express, to show the printed versions of the rumours).

In June 1969 I was about to set off on a holiday that involved driving through Italy, and expected to be in/near Rome at about the rumoured date.

We visited the Colosseum 2 days before the rumoured date, and could see that not only were there absolutely no preparations being made, it was not (at that time) even faintly plausible for a concert there.

Didn't McCartney do some sort of Colosseum show in the early 2000's? Something like an exclusive show inside for a very small audience, and then another (free) show the next night for an audience outside?

The most promising candidate is Arena di Verona.

The idea of show on Easter Island is clearly delusional - either by the journalist who wrote about it, or whoever came up with the "idea" and fed it to the journalist. How the <expletive deleted> would you get all the gear there, and there would not be any audience worth mentioning. Next to zero infrastructure. Bonkers.

The Eiffel Tower sounds good though! If Celine Dion can do it, then so can The Stones!!

As I understand it, the EU visa waiver won't be in place before the tour. The EES (automated IT system) is due to be introduced 'sometime in 2025' and the ETIAS (the visa waiver) 6 months after that, so should be fine.
