Hello fellow IORRians!

I just rewatching San Jose April 99 and after Saint Of Me Keith switches his white 60's Telecaster to another white 60's Telecaster!

I thought there was only ONE 999?!?!

Anyone could shed some light on this?

Mathijs??

Knitpicking, but isn't it a '59? winking smiley

Don't know about a second one, but wouldn't be surprised if he has one.

Yep a '59 by all accounts ....and some joker in the 70s seems to have fitted a silly brass nut .

Dandy you are correct, my bad. Only I found it intriguing to find out he uses 2 (at least) which I certainly did not know about before.

I love the fact that he can't be arsed removing the capo to do Some Girls but I guess PIB is up afterwards....?

It goes out of tune if he takes of the capo, not much but a little.

Nope, the original bone nut is still on it.

I can only watch the clips on Youtube so I do not see the 'switching' part, but as far as I can tell he uses the same guitar on both tracks -the 1959 Tele.

He has spares for all his guitars, but I have never seen a close copy to his 999 guitar.

Oh...Glad to hear it .

I once saw a close up photo with what for all the world looked like a brass nut.

Must have been the light or the printing . Maybe it's quite yellowed.

It's the light reflecting on the fairly large piece of rosewood behind the nut, extending from the fretboard.

'999' is the U.K. emergency number. That could be it, I suppose.

OK, thanxs.
I'll look for the lyrics later. It never was my favorite, to be honest. A bit messy in my opinion. Or too messy for me.

i'm pretty sure he means $9.99 or nine dollars and ninety nine cents

most americans would just say it like this "nine ninety nine" like keith sings it

but it seems to me keith is playing on it also being the emergency number in the uk

"nine ninety-nine" is also a thing in the UK... nine pounds and ninety nine pence.

That said Keith comes from the generation of pounds shillings and
and pence...[which I'm sadly old enough myself to remember ;^) ]

"Nine Pounds ,Nineteen Shillings and Elevenpence" might not have been such a good song title grinning smiley

when watching these Ronnie documentary videos with Bobby Womack last month, I thought I caught Ronnie referring to a bottle with some powder in it as 999 (if I understood that correctly), it occurred to me that it might also be a term for stuff of high purity...I don't know but that might be another layer of meaning, besides the more obvious ones already mentioned

Does any of you know, how the guitar got its name? Was the song recorded with it?

I think 999 is recognised by some as a spiritually significant number.

Not a clue about the details of this though.

He also used two different '59 teles at the O2 shows (and most probably at the Barkley Center) in 2012 for It's All Over Now/The Last Time respectively and Paint it Black (with the capo).
You can see Pierre already in the background with the one for Paint it Black at the end of both of these videos:
