I am so sorry to report that Brother Wayne has died, he was 75 and such an important part of my musical education. The 5 are all gone now

Happy to say Dennis Thompson (drummer) is still alive, about the only happy news on this sad day. I met Brother Wayne once and he was the loveliest man, and of course the MC5 were hugely influential. Will be blasting Kick Out the Jams tonight in Wayne's honor.

Ah man.

Saw him with an MC5 reunion-ish at Irving Plaza in NYC in 2018.
Freakin awesome.
He was so positive, happy, excited, and alive on stage, telling stories.
So great and inspiring - that cat had charisma

Rambling Rose is a go-to and I love this Beat Club Version.

Keeping it Stones-related, Charlie saw the MC5 in London back in the day, and happened to be at Tower Records on Sunset in May 1997 when Wayne was doing an in-store performance to promote his new album, Citizen Wayne. (I saw Charlie coming out as I was going in.)

Wayne told me a few days later that he went up to Charlie at Tower and said hello. But Charlie had no idea who he was (as you'd expect), so just politely asked Wayne, "What are you up to these days?" And Wayne replied, "Same old stuff, trying to make a living playing music." Charlie thought this was funny, which rubbed Wayne the wrong way because he was struggling and didn't think it was funny and people like Charlie don't understand.

Wayne also told me that the MC5 were promised an opening slot for the Stones, but it was jerked out from under them and they had to settle for opening for the Dave Clark Five.

Really crap news. I love the MC5 and saw what’s left 6-8 times from the DKT/MC5 shows onwards. Met Wayne briefly in 2018 and he kindly signed a copy of his autobiography he was a warm guy. RIP Brother Wayne. Dennis Thompson is the only guy left now…

Imho, far less than the Stooges... Anyway RIP to a great guitarist.

He also mentioned this in his book.

Depends the area of influence. Purely in terms of music, yes, I'd agree the Stooges were more influential. But regarding musical activism, the MC5 inspired thousands of bands, right through to bands like Rage Against the Machine and onward. Wayne was still involved in activism when he died. And of course, was still a great guitarist!

I worked as a bouncer at a club in New London Ct in 1981, and Wayne Kramer played one weekend, Wayne and the band stayed at my place for two days, party party party.
