I'd not pick any of those you listed but Id go with EXILE...hands down their very best album ever! After that I'd pick Sticky Fngers and Let It Bleed!

That is also my usual order but honestly someone says Beggars Banquet and I think of all the amazing cuts off that too. In reality on any give day for me those big 4 are interchangeable, the awesomeness is just so palatable.

Easy one : Bridges everyday

Hackney is IMO the weakest stones album of all time

Dirty Work, followed by Baggers Banquet.

I would also take a compilation or two. Big Hits + Through The Past...

If you had to pick just one Rolling Stones album, from each decade, should be the question.

60s Let It Bleed
70s Exile
80s Tattoo You
90s Voodoo Lounge
00s A Bigger Bang (by a nose)
10s Blue & Lonesome
20s Hackney Diamonds (though I reserve the right to change that, depending on how the next album sounds)

You know, that's still an impressive catalogue if that's all we're limited too.

Right then, here's a difficult question.

If you could only listen to albums from the 60s or albums from the 70's ?

No matter how much I love Ronnie's contribution, 60s without a doubt.

The singles from Come On to Honky Tonk is all that I need to live happy for the rest of my life!

..but thoughts of living without SF and Exile are as scary as living without BB and LIB.

If I were really put in that position, I just don't know which way I'd jump.

[I think I'd likely turn a funny colour and then explode]

DP and Spud, sure you have an argument there, yet Fingers and Exile, as I see them, somehow develop what was already there in Banquet and Bleed, they don't really add anything new. So, yes, if I lost all my post 60s albums, I would miss Fingers and Exile, but still I could survive.

On the other hand, the big pop hits of 65/67 that literally "made" the stones huge, Paint it Black, Lady Jane, Ruby Tuesday, etc. etc. have no counterpart in what was released in the 70s

If the stones called it quits after Bleed, they would still be one of the greatest.

I agree (to some extent), and some of the songs on SF and Exile were written in the 60s anyway.

They wouldn't exactly be forgotten if they called it quits after 1966, either smiling smiley

1972-1973 live.Bridges is the best ,followed closely by Voodooand Hackney.Steel Wheels has some great stuff ,including one of Keith’s greatest songs, Slipping Away.To me a Bigger Bang is their worst album next to Dirty Work

Voodoo first followed by runner-up Hackney.

For me this is certainly top 5. I'm not sure it breaks into the top 4. Mainly because I can barely decide my favourite out of that top 4.

It’s like saying if you were to keep just one kid. Difficult because songs depend on your mood but I would have to pick Exile due to its length. Album to give up is pretty easy Undercover

Hackney Diamonds... I am still amazed they were able to pull an album of this outstanding quality and listenability out of their hats at this late stage in the game

Getting back to the original idea - and finding what I posted - some words:

HACKNEY DIAMONDS - Fantastic album. It's their best album since UNDERCOVER or even TATTOO YOU. Fantastic songs and playing - Angry is as close to the essence of Start Me Up they'll ever have (unless something on the next album says other wise). Get Close, Depending On You, Driving Me Too Hard and Tell Me Straight - STONES.

Not too long. Great tunes. EXILE of the 2020s? Sure. Hell, it took them longer than EOMS.

BRIDGES TO BABYLON - What a relief from vanilla VOODOO. Pristine sounds, rolling bass, rockers - one of the greatest soul ballads EVER. Not everything worked but what a reward from listening to the sludge and ooze of VOODOO LOUNGE.

BLUE AND LONESOME - The title track alone is worth buying the album. Little Rain is outstanding. I Can't Quit You Baby is absolutely necessary.

A BIGGER BANG - Laugh, I Nearly Died kinda sums up this album. Fortunately it's way better than something previous. Way too long, too many downs. Some nice tracks though - Rough Justice, Let Me Down Slow, It Won't Take Long, Rain Fall Down... it's there. It just isn't as well. Aside from possibly their worst ballad ever, the album is up up up in musical attitude.

STEEL WHEELS - CLANG CLANG... so begins the new album, aptly with Sad Sad Sad, after the disaster of 1986. It's decent. Mixed Emotions, Almost Hear You Sigh, Hearts For Sale, Break The Spell and Slipping Away are fantastic reasons to have - or stream - this album.

VOODOO LOUNGE - The Stones imitate themselves on stage, as some people love to say, so why bother doing an album that does just that? Because they got a big fat contract to do so. The biggest story being Charlie moved his drums to the bottom of the stairwell? Keith used a comb on a bike wheel?

That's the hype?

Too many bad songs on a too long album.

DIRTY WORK should've been called WHY BOTHER and either not released or a Harlem Shuffle EP with Had It With You, One Hit and Sleep Tonight as the extras. A complete disgrace and should be an embarrassment for any serious Stones fan to have it in their collection for anyone to see.

If Sony/CBS (Columbia) had any balls they would've told them to start over and give us something worthwhile to get behind and stop screwing around and give us some Stones.

Think about that for a minute: the CBS contract kicked in with DIRTY WORK. So what does Mick do? He's too busy working on his solo albums on... CBS Records. He's prolific, right?
