The deals that artists and the venues do are really interesting and often unique.
Apparently Jimmy Buffet would get 105% of ticket sales at his shows, meaning that the venue had to pay him an additional fee because his fans consumed so much booze at each show that it was worth it for the venue.

Had to pass on House of Blues tonight after all.
Going to Buddy Guy's Legends tomorrow. There's going to be a few IORRians.
The free acoustic set goes 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM.

Legends is definitely the better choice! Might want to consider staying for Jimmy Burns... he's a Chicago treasure! Plus you never know who will show up at the Blues Jam afterwards

Jimmy BuffetT had an 80/20 split with venues.
He made no additional money from booze sales - unless the venue was selling LandShark beer and Margaritaville tequila - which no venue did or does, regardless of them both "sponsoring" his tours.
When Corona sponsored Buffett venues only sold Miller Lite (to my understanding).
Jimmy Buffett made $0 off of booze sales at shows.
I remember going into a store outside of Clarkston, MI, near Pine Knob, and the manager said when Buffett comes to town they quadruple order on beer and they still run out.
The only other act to come close to Buffett was Steve Miller. Everyone else was just whatever.
I can imagine it:
How much beer do you sell when Guns'N'Roses come through?
Mostly Bud Light, the rest is Miller Lite. Hardly anything else.
What about when Aerosmith comes through?
Mostly Bud Light, the rest is Miller Lite. Hardly anything else.
When Jimmy Buffett comes to town?
We order 500 cases of Heineken, 500 cases of Corona, about half of four or five others, and then just a little bit more of the Bud and Miller beers, which are the last to sell. But we sell them all. It's gone by 3 PM.
You can't order more?
Sure we can - but there's no where to put it.
Come on everyone going tomorrow night, let's make Bite My Head Off happen!! I think I'm bringing a long sleeve shirt. Looks like it is going to be around 65 degrees show timeQuote

I left DC late this morning. It was 90 degrees and steamy.
What a relief the Chicago weather is.
Great weather for a Stones show tomorrow.
Ready for Rambler and another new song from HD. Come on Bite My Head Off!

I'd check back around 3:30. I think 3:30-4:00 seems to be the average time they open. Where outside of Soldier is it located?

For any fantasy song vote…it simply has to be Let It Loose.

This is totally OT. Hopefully no BS.
I have visited Chicago only once. That was when I attended the World Science Fiction Convention (AKA Worldcon) in 1991 towards the end of summer.
One afternoon I left the event site and went outside to take a break. As I was strolling the nearby Lincoln Park, I spotted a gathering of people from some distance. Intrigued, I walked to the crowd. It turned out to be a rally of some sort. Standing in the center of the circle and giving a speech was — Timothy Leary. Yes, that Timothy Leary. “Wow,” I thought, “legend.”
“I’ve been to Japan recently,” the old man preached. “New species of human race are born in that country.” And he went on and on.
The 60s was long gone, but this guru of the hippie generation gave his mantra as eloquently as before.
When the rally was over, I approached him and asked, “I came from Japan. May I have a picture with you?”
“Sure,” he replied in a good mood.
“Far out” was my reaction when the photo came back from the camera shop.
Enjoy the show everybody!
