I'm a sucker for the Dobro by Ronnie. Like on The Storm, Love In Vain on Stripped, and Already Over Me. He plays some tasty beatiful slide licks on these songs.

Dreamy Skies has a beautiful soundscape as well. Very very tasteful. And that harp by Mick is just heaven, the sound and melody of it.

Listened to this song three or four times today and I think it's my favorite after SSOH

I'm posting this on behalf of openg, who can't get on the site for some reason.

His comment is that Dreamy Skies is a cross between the live version of You Got the Silver and Evening Gown - along withe some No Expectations.

Lovely tune with just enough tempo to prevent it being called Dreary Skies spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Cool Ronnie on this one.

After all these years with Ron Wood on guitar, this is the first time that the stones have sounded like the faces to me.
A well judged change of tone. The sequencing of the album is one of its many strengths.

The combination of Ronnie's dobro and Keith's open G (no pick) is fantastic thumbs up

This may be my favorite track on this album after 5 or so go-arounds with it. I love that they are going back to that pared down, country, acoustic sound, and they still can do it beautifully. So much feeling and emotion in this one. And the break towards the end followed by Mick's harp solo. Lovely!

The D-C-G chord progression that this song employs is pretty common in rock and roll... Stray Cat Blues and Loving Cup also use this progression, and I am sure there are countless others in the Stones catalog.

Torn & Frayed was my first thought as well.

Few artists mixes country and rock as good as the the rolling stones

I can’t believe that no-one has pointed out the similarities to the track, ‘Short And Curlies’ yet.

Apologies, I was being facetious, NashvilleBlues. I had read all the messages first.

This could have been on Sticky Fingers
Andrew Watt really got the vintage sound right.

I thought the exact same thing the first time I heard it I had to go back and check my Flaming Groovies album. I think It's great!

I remember when the Flaming Groovies Teenage Head was referred to as the teenage Exile. It's a great album, if you haven't you should check it out

Re: Dreamy Skies - Track Talk

...Teenage Head is listed in the 2006 book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Mick Jagger compared the album favorably to the Rolling Stones' contemporaneous Sticky Fingers.Jagger reportedly thought the Flamin' Groovies did the better take on the theme of classic blues and rock 'n roll revisited in an early 1970s context.

[en.wikipedia.org])

so Mick Jagger knew the Flamin' Groovies and the album Teenage Head, and he admired the album ..., more than 50 years ago

It has a No Expectations vibe but there's a lift oddly, from Short And Curlies. Anyone else heard that?

Didn't think they'd ever come close to No Expectations again, but this is close! It's dreamy!

Dreamy Skies sounds like Short and Curlies with maybe an echo of…Going Home

This isn’t the best song on the album (that honor probably belongs to one of the Jagger numbers) but it’s my favorite. For me this is the only song that can trace its roots back to Exile. Not that it sounds like it could’ve been written during the Exile sessions – it doesn’t – but in this song I dreamily see and hear those same lions who roamed the earth during my youth. Mick and Keith were lions, they were Kings. And even if their manes have become frayed and their power has waned they are unmistakably the same lions on 'Dreamy Skies.' That connection means something to me. On the other hand, I have no freaking idea what animal is playing Whole Wide World although I think it’s a great song.

And while I hesitate to use a phrase like ‘authentic Stones sound’ I even find it hard to find affection for songs like ‘Tell Me Straight’ and ‘Driving Me Too Hard’ because they just don’t sound like those lions - they sound like they belong on a Keith solo record.
