I think it's their most British, Britpop kind of track

I was thinking the same

Also, Bite my head off has the kind of feel of Blur Song 2

Different Stones, in an interesting way

Upon first listen, this was the only true dud to me on the record. The verses are okay, but the chorus is just so dull (in general, I gotta say the choruses are lacking a bit on this record). It's badly sequenced too, after another uptempo track with more energy.

Great, new wave style stones track. I think it's great and catchy. Love the singing and guitars. Steve is a great player. The modern production, mixe and drum sound are still timeless IMO. Time will tell lolz

No, it's Five Foot One you should listen to....

I'm fully on board with Mick leaning into the Brit accent on a few tracks, no doubt as a nod to the overall Hackney theme. "Whole Wide World" was an instant standout for me, primarily because it was so unexpected. I'm beginning to think a good litmus test for the band might be to see if a song makes diehard fans grumble or pushes them out of their comfort zone.

Ronnie mentioned this one during his Tonight Show appearance and it was great to see it included in the club gig. So they're clearly aware it could have potential as a single.

Same here.

I liked it very much on a first listen, but after listening to it again, this time following the lyrics, I like this one better.

I love the references to their past and the way it sounds modern.

The whole song is great, and I like this part very much:

"Well the dreary streets of London
They never promised much
A dead end job to nowhere
And all your dreams are crushed"

The way Mick sings that verse and the way the tempo slows down has a 66-67ish vibe to me, only modern.

Excellent track!

This is a keeper.

In fact I've noticed that so many of the songs on the album could easily have been released as singles. It's been really long time I think that you could say that.

One of the best tracks!

Ronnie nails a nice solo in the Racket Club performance. Mick sort of pushes him to the front for his solo moment at 0.58. Could become a live gem in a big stadium.

My oldest daughter says it reminds her of Dark Wave, which is music like Depeche Mode, Joy Division and the Cure. I agree. That said , I love it!

Someone mentioned that Whole Wide World could easily have been on some of the latter day Bowie albums. It’d fit right onto Reality for example. That kind of angst laden rock Bowie did so well.

Awesome song as well!
Lyrics are great and overall sound is wonderful.
I love Mick's voice when he sing "When the dreary streets of London
They never promised much"...I simply love it!

To date my favorite track of the album.

I love the London vide of it, including Jagger's mock cockney accent during the chorus.

Yes you're absolutely right. It's Five Foot One. Very similar riff and a great track in its' open right. Not a copyright issue as the songs take different directions. But a very similar riff....

Iggy Pop might recognise the riff. I think his song is called 'Girls'....

Or I was thinking Five Foot One. (As I now see someone else mentioned).

The similarity between the two songs is a bit far fetched if you ask me.

Horrible. Sounds like it’s from some 2nd rate Netflix high school / teen drama.
Sorry for negativity- there’s some great stuff on the album imo - but this is just puerile.

It's interesting that Mick pronounces some words in British English. Like "glass" and "past". Usually when he sings he pronounces them the American way.

It's an OK rocker but not among the best songs on the album, IMO.

Yes it catches your attention, I've never heard him sing that way before. I think I've heard him talk like that however.

There must be a few other examples, too. I'm thinking Between The Buttons, Aftermath, Satanic Majesties era? Lady Jane, On With The Show, off the top of my head.
