Actually, it wasn't. Mick had a ballad he wanted on the album, but Keith and Watt didn't think it was good enough. So they wrote this one together.

Now that you mention it; yes, there are some Keith ballad ingredients involved here. Not a bad song but nothing that special either. The lyrics sets me off a bit though (unless they are Keith's lyrics?).

an amazing ballad with great lyrics. a high point on the album, which is saying alot given all the other peaks.

No sax on DOY, only strings (which are credited).King and Blake are credited on SSOH (if memory serves) and James King is credited on GC.

It does not sound like strings to me at all strangely enough. I can’t be the only one hearing a saxophone in the last part/outro of the song?

Yes, there is a strange sound at the end - like a choir/string/organ-thing. Or like someone´s playing a comb...But obviously no sax.

No I am not mixing it up with Get Close. I can agree it sounds like a comb w paper or a kazoo but to me defenitly not strings or choir.

Same here. However, when you first hear something, it's hard just to wipe it off.

For years I thought there was a synth ending Ronnie's solo on Shattered (the high pitched notes). After repeated listenings I finally realised it was a slide overdub by Ronnie

Right channel 3:30: Multiple violins, playing the same notes. The mix is not very bright, and the effect of it all is a wee bit strange, imo. But definitely violins.

The dolby atmos version has a better separation and a less compressed sound: 100% strings

Is he even audible? Haven't been able to hear him if he is.
